Amiga music player on PC
Hi,
Don't know where else to post this. What is the preferred player on PC for most/all formats to date? Cheers |

Thanks for replies fellas.
I used to use dp1.3 and today I tried their last version. It seems to play the songs better although the panning is not right. Some channels are louder than others so it doesn't sound like it should. Then I looked at WinAmp with the oldsk00l plug-in. That one does not play all formats but most of the formats I play AND sounds a lot better IMO. It is a pleasure to actually hear how they are supposed to sound. |

You can also try XMPlay with the Delix plugin, it plays many formats and with the XMPlay zip/lha plugins you can open archives.

Cheers again. bLAZER, I tried your player aswell but it does not recognize my exotic types. Could it be that I have to rename them with their real extension, for example .fc3? If so, how can I find out what format it actually is? I like the vu-meters! ^^

Hi there,
no BZR Player doesn't care about extensions for 99% of the formats. I am aware though that a lot of exotic Amiga formats aren't playable. What formats do you have i mind? |

BZRPlayer 0.8.3 will still be in the Zone for the next four days for those who can't download it from bLAZER's site.

Deliplayer 2.5b is pretty faithful at playing back almost anything. As for the panning, you sure you didn't have wide stereo set? Or Join Stereo? Were you playing 8-channel mods? You can try changing the mixer plugin and setting "Mix Quality" to scaled. What formats were you using? Some replay routines have options. For example the Lionheart Sonic Arranger tracks need the Arpeggio switch toggled in that player. To me, Deliplayer is better at playing even MP3's than most PC players. The frequency separation is so much better. I dunno if that is due to the default settings or if I've tweaked them over the years. But it is miles better than WinAMP, FooBar and a whole load of other players. |

Deliplayer doesn't work on Vista, one channel of the two stereo channels is silent. Not sure if there is a way to get it working though. Haven't tried it on Windows 7 either.

Maybe that is not the right term?
I was trying to describe that the bass sounds deep (without distortion) whilst at the same time the treble sounds crisp, sharp, not filtered. I don't have the equalizer enabled in deliplayer. Not sure if it is just the decoding, some sort of post processing, or filtering (pretty sure everything in Deliplayer is turned off) it just sounds better (or at least different) than a host of other players to me. The only one that came close was one called Sonique. I wonder if I could record wav files from two applications for a comparison? I guess there is little point. It is so subjective. I was going to suggest Cubic Player but it looks like it hasnt been maintained since the days of DOS. I cant belive its been that long since I used it last!..
However if your using a Linux OS there is an upto date port available. http://freshmeat.net/projects/opencubicplayer EDIT: Works fine in Dosbox under win 64, bit of a hoop to jump through but its kinda worth it. Last edited by Locash; 10 September 2010 at 07:38. |

This is with all formats, mod or exotic. Setting ''Mix Quality'' to scaled doesn't do a thing for me. Right now I am playing Ron Klaren's BattleSquadron endtune and when the melody comes in in DeliPlayer it is just way to soft. The oldsk00l plug-in in WinAmp has no problem with it at all Quote:
