Let's see: three letters of the Latin alphabet, so I pronounce them that way.

What way? The word "the" is three letters of the Latin alphabet, and is pronounced "the". The acronym "RAM" is three letters of the Latin alphabet, and is pronounced "ram". And the initialism "CPU" is three letters of the Latin alphabet, and is pronounced as discrete letters.

Anyway, to answer the OP, personally I switch between the two, depending on what others in the conversation have used before me. If I'm first to use the term, I'll make a judgement call, but more often than not I'd probably treat it as an initialism, i.e. separate letters. Same for MUI.

I omit the G and just say the letters U-I. That way I don't have to say gooey.

I think this is what I will do now, it seems to keep both camps happy.

But after a bit of googling I have found quite alot of I'm in the industry and It's always been gooey.

even so it still seems 50/50 but probably people in the industry using GOO-ee .

To me GOO-ee is Bill Gates trying to be cool at a stackoverflow convention.

but it's strange how most of us say things in the same way for example think about how you say the following
Gif, Iff, WYSIWYG
now I bet 99.9% of us pronounce these the same.

It depends to whom I am speaking with. With 'noobs' I always pronounce it "Graphical User Interface" (otherwise you got head acknowledgement with big eyes - and you know they are lost) and with the pro I don't even have to pronounce it as they know what I am talking about

joking of course.... but who knows

In French it's just gé-u-i [Ze-y-i]. Never heard anything else. Wouldn't try to spell it in english.
