Weird textedit error
Hi,
Just tried to start Textedit on 3.2, which hasn't been a problem before but got this weird error. TextEdit requires version 47 of window.class The reason why it is strange is because: 1. I haven't made any changes to my system that I can recall. 2. Version sys:classes/window.class full gives me window.class 47.20 (2020-12-03) (and yes, sys:classes is in the libs-path) Seems to be the right version. The filesize is the same as it is in my backup. I even restored it from there just to make sure, but made no difference. Any idea of why Textedit can't find that I have the correct .class file? Everything else that requires reaction works as it should. Like say "Execute command", EditPad, or Showconfig. No, correction. RAWBInfo doesn't work either so when that is running it is impossible to change for example tooltypes. |

Never mind. Something must have made changes I hadn't thought of or noticed. Some older .class files had been copied into sys:libs, and those took precedence. Once those had been removed everything works as it should again.

I have the same issue- TextEdit requires version 47 of window.class
When I look in classes, I see the pipe wrench that has description window.class, but I don’t know how to check version. I’m using os3.2 I don’t see any.class files anywhere else Any help I’d greatly appreciated! |

Thank you - that tells me window.class is 47.20
I don’t see any other .class files in libs Do I need to find plain 47 ( not 47.20) and replace it? |

No, there MUST be an older .class file somewhere around! Try snoopdos from aminet and Look Where Textedit looks for the Window.class to find the wrong one |

Well, I got snoopdos and this is what it shows me:
Open. TextEdit.info. Read ok Changedir. Sys: Tool type. Settings. Fail Tool type. Pubscreen. Fail Load. Libs:images/draw list.image. Ok Load. Libs:gadgets/layou.gadget. Ok Load Libs: gadgets/scroller.gadge. Ok I thought maybe window.class was missing from tooltypes, but I’m not sure where tooltypes even redsides. |

[edit] You could try comparing the three .class files, and the contents of Libs:gadgets with the ones from the classes3.2.adf disk in the adf folder of the AmigaOS3.2 CD - I suspect something has copied older versions into there without checking them first. Have you installed anything new recently? Last edited by indigolemon; 17 August 2023 at 22:24. |

If I were to reinstall 3.2, would it leave in place the necessary drivers/files/ etc for Buddha,tf530,and x-surf? I have eprom 3.2.2 |

I don't think you'll need a complete reinstall tbh, if everything else is working fine it's almost guaranteed to be one or two of the Reaction files that are borked at most.
You could as a quick starter for ten just check the timestamps on the files - if any of them have a timestamp that predates OS3.2 then they're likely the ones you need to swap out. |
