Compression Suggestions
Hi Guys
I've just finished a little bit of code which breaks up a modules into song and sample files, however the sample files have all been delta'd to help with the compression ratio. I'm currently doing some tests with file imploder, and it's hitting some samples which it simply wont compress! They seem to be the samples with a lot of high frequencies, which makes sense to me. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for compressing this kind of data? I did a quick test with The Player 6.1 and its 4bit delta compression. Admitidely, very high yeild, but it does sacrifice quality quick badly. Maybe its an option to use 4bit delta with some of the samples, maybe depending on the variance of the data (i.e. rough percentage of difference) The sample files all range from around 1k to 50k, so was wondering if this was a factor too? Would love to hear your thoughts. Cheers |

Scrub this, I've opted for CrunchMania, its got the biggest win overall and it looks like i'll be able to fit it all onto 3 disks.

Hmm maybe something like FLAC or even better Wavpack?
