Well Soundblaster / Adlib support was pretty universal (de facto standard) with other options being an added bonus. But yeah you're probably right about the cost-cutting.

Hardly any games supported the 'exotic' modes anyway. CGA, EGA, VGA, Adlib and SoundBlaster were the choices that most DOS games supported (plus the MIDI device of your choice). Hercules, PC Jr, SoundCanvas etc. was only available on a couple of titles anyway. For 'input' you had a few options here and there, but the majority of games just went for keyboard or gameport.

Nope - just poor or lazy programming. Tunes could use 2/3 channels and have one for sound effects. Plainly a design choice?

The fact that "a" sound is played while there should be an orgie of them happening?

Cool music though.

I think this should stick to games that make you choose only. There is already a subsection for music only which does not really belong, if we then also add sound only then every game available can be included

As you can read here musician were given a maximum size to work with. It might come down to poor or lazy programming, but it might also be a choice between music *and* sfx or something else that would require the memory.

Fair enough - unlike today, memory was very precious! What would be interesting to know is are there games load sfx when this is a choice or load music if this is as choice as opposed to holding both in memory at the same time because if this is the case then there would be no excuse.

Just find this annoying as I love having music but if you then don't have sounds effects, you sort of lose the connection with the game.

And just occurred to me - are there any games on this list that have both sfx and music on the St - that would be a travesty...

Thanks, added :-)

Is anyone able to confirm the TBCs? Else I'll check them out at the weekend.

you guys can add the game " Premiere" to the list

however the member JOTD compiled a special version of Premiere with CDDA audio for the CD32 which adds music+soundFX together

Yeah I noticed that too. It's weird because I thought they were a very capable and talented bunch of developers (I mean they obviously were, so wouldn't expect to have to make the choice).

If only games could be developed with unlimited time and budget.
