Lightbulb modding a 3button megadrive pad with amiga

so i have a 3 button pad mega drive/genesis pad i use with my amiga (only b and c are functional)

what i'd like to do is make the A button be UP on the dpad.

i've seen lots of conflicting information about what is the appropriate way to do this. is there any real definitive answer?

All you need to do is disconnect the side of the A switch that goes to the chip and connect it to the side of the Up switch that goes to pin 1. The other sides of both switches will be connected together and connected to pin 8 (ground). You can use a switch (SPDT) to swap over the connection if you'd like the pad to be easily switched back to normal Megadrive use.
