On Twitter I read often posts from experienced game programmers that hate OO and C++, for example Casey Muratory, Johnathan blow or Mike Acton... Jon is developing a new programming language to replace C++ for game developers (Jay)

To become a C God : https://fabiensanglard.net/c/

This is great!

However, if I may selfishly ask: "Is there any chance of porting Final Fight , instead of Double Dragon"?
DD is not really that good beat em up, imho, and we already have somewhat descent port of it (not sure if it's DD 1, 2 or 3 most descent), and FF port is really bad in terms of gameplay.

0% chance of that for this project However longer term it could be possible.

The port of DD2 was ok but the Amiga deserves better. I agree Final Fight was horrible to play.

This is a pretty good port IMHO

...but you're going the first game in the series aren't you, which isn't great on the Amiga?

Very excited to hear about this port, a firm favourite of mine in the arcades. Doubles with friends/brothers, happy memories! Good luck with this project, looking forward to updates.

p.s. I know its early to be discussing the music, and maybe it's not a consideration just yet, but what's the plan for the music?!! DJ Metune's music for McGeezer's (arcade perfect surely?!) Rygar port was just so fabulously spot on it was the icing on an already perfect cake!

If he decide to go with me am using hoot to grab music samples; would try to have a two or three channel in-game music - even though the two players would seem more inclined to two channels however will see

Thank you, yes this should be alot of fun for us to make. The Amiga is very close to my heart, and Double Dragon is a project of passion.

Regarding music, I know saimon is interested, thank you for that, but I already have a plan to do it myself as a joint project with Cody Carpenter. Taking a approach similar to Viperhacks version of Final Fight.

You can check out my music here: http://www.electriccafe.xyz/video-games

We will most likely use 3 channels music, 1 for sfx.

But I will also do some tests using 4 channels for music and dynamically inserting the sfx into the music (in my head that already sounds a bad idea but it may work well, you never know)

Photoshop mock up in 32 colours of first area using a selective palette and relying on no hardware tricks.

Would need a few cleanups here and there but it already looks great.

Just regarding Final Fight, for a failed port i composed all in-game tracks in two channel couple years ago, you can hear the result here:

That's cool. I went to two of Cody's shows with his dad. Not sure if John Carpenter is into the Amiga as there's in Prince of Darkness. I suspect it was added by a crew member and not at John's request.

Regarding music again, we will investigate the use of TFMX as a possibility.

It will give us a richer soundscape and the instruments can be shared across files, saving memory.

Every Friday we discuss progress, this forum and action points for the week ahead.

This week we will be trying to achieve the following:

(1)
Write something to disk, can be just text
Read from disk and print to console
(2)
Put text file onto Amiga.
Read file from disk and print to console
(3)
Put image file onto Amiga.
Read image file from disk and print bytes to console (not as image, as text).
(4)
Put image file onto Amiga.
Read image file from disk and display image on screen.

Once we have these basics in place it will provide the foundations of loading assets into memory.

no offense, but posting your wishes and what you're going to do here isn't going to make your game real.

We've seen so many threads with game projects that never were made. Now it's time to jump in the void and accept long weeks of non-working & crashing trash & technical questions about compiler/graphics/sounds/music replayer/blitter/sprites/copper/scrolling until you can show us something.

Good luck.
