Also, as a side note, if you press <T> within the game you can see the speech text.
Any chance you could share this juicy hdf?

Thanks!

I can't share on EAB as it's not a bare-bones .HDF; couldn't be bothered trying to work out Fonts / Libs etc...

Therefore it's a WB 3.1 install with the game added (all data copied from the CD-ROM and Assigns used so that the CD-ROM isn't required).

Anyway, check you PMs

Unfortunately the Amiga version does not have a midi driver thus there was no music.

there is only the executable which is different from the pc version. As well as voice files. on the other hand the file Simon2.gme (20Mo) is the same as on PC

I've tested this game on my Amigas. Here are my advice:

1- DO NOT update. Applying the patch Simon2Upd5 makes the game crash when you approach the castle.
2- Always choose Paula: 14bit stereo++ 24000 Hz at game start. That gives the best audio and even prevents some graphic glitches (don't know how and why but is really so).
3- Use PAL 320x256 (or NTSC 320x200 if you have an NTSC machine) even if you have a graphics card. RTG mode in this game lacks color animations.

Good luck.

I guess it must be incredibly difficult to add those midi files to the game otherwise it would probably be done by now?

The original Simon the Sorcerer was my favourite CD32 game, and it and Beneath a Steel Sky were why I fell in love with that system. I always kinda stuck my nose up at Simon the Sorcerer II knowing the music was missing from the Amiga version.

If when the TF360 is released I think this is the first game I will play on the CD32 thru Scumm, would much rather play the native Amiga version but seems a bit pointless without the music track which is how the original game developers meant it to be played.

The midi file are in the game. The game just does nothing with them. I cant remember which package had it, but there is a tool to play the files. It was either Timidity++ or Amidi. Outside of the game of course so still not very useful.

For what's it's worth, there is a V1.06 patch available here, dated from 2002 :

And don't forget that you can obviously play this game (and many others) with full 256 color AGA graphics and MIDI sound using ScummVM AGA...

Hi all!

I just started playing StSII thanks to storm Fay

I choose also Paula: 14bit stereo++ 24000 Hz but the sound volume is very low, I must set my PC volume to 100% to hear the sound, barely. Any idea?

@NovaCoder, very impressive video! I'm not familiar with ScummVM AGA (or otherwise). Which version of StSII are you playing in it?

Cheers!

Thanks

Yes I spent many months porting over scummvm using a native AGA back-end to get it running at a good speed.

In the video I used PC CDROM VGA versions of the game data files but you can actually use any platform data you want including C64 or Amiga data

Hey NovaCoder!

So if I could find a PC VGA version of StSII, I could play it "directly" via ScummVM AGA? Did I understand correctly?

Cheers!

Great this update works great. No crashes and even animations are smoother now.
Thanks for the link. Why is it not on Aminet though?

This is also the update that I use

Have you read the ".guide" file though? Apparently the AGA version is just "Update 5":

I've never had the issue you mentioned though:

Yes, I've read it. Even it says the files are identical, the update from Simon2Upd5.lha from Aminet crashes every time when entered Castle screen. Maybe the archive is corrupt... or the files aren't identical as mentioned. I don't know.
