Which games you didnt expected to be so good??

Hi all,

Which games you didnt expected to be so good??

To my mind comes Supercars2.

The first one was plain boring and slow.. I thought, many static screens but when you go to play the game is boooring, and slooow.

Then came the second part. when Ive loaded it was equally slow.. but after a while it came to be much better than the first part, more weapons, the 2p option ( which I don´t have really played ever with nobody, to tell the truth ) and fullscreen.

Also ShadowOfTheBeastIII, really good and wise gameplay.. practically the opposed to previous parts.

whats yours??

I like SC more than SC2

The only game I really didnt expect to be SO good was Crazy Cars 3. CC and CC2 are ordinary racing games and CC3 is my favourite racing game (with Lotus 1). The idea is great, playbality, gameplay, fun, I love this game.

Maybe IJ Fate ... advenuture game wasnt expected to be so good in comparison with Last Crusade but after playing Monkey Island and MI2 it wasnt big surprise that this one is so good.

Now I remember I was expecting utter crap when reading about slovakian guys preparing "tribute" to Target:Renegade (my second favourite speccy game) and ... it is not I mean Strangers.

Bubba'n'Stix, Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis, Rally Championships & D/Generation are what I call "late discoveries" for me. Just when you thought your favorite Amiga games list couldn't be expanded...

This said, I don't think tons of games can be "rediscovered" this way, one has to hold on to his "classics" also.

Crazy Cars III - Didn't expect much after the disasters that where Crazy Cars 1 & 2.
Deep Core - Not really that bad as it's been "accused" to be.

Double Dragon II, just original coin-op had bad gamplay, and DD1 was so bad on Amiga ( or must I say ST) that I never thought I gonna find such a nice game.

Full screen, the sounds of the coin-op, a remarkable original intro tune, big sprites, just a bit too easy.. but second best beat´m up after Golden Axe ( also a bit too easy )

strange, because most Ocean France Games were better than 95% of the english conversions hands up

They had great coders, and 2 of the best graphists out there.

The most Ocean France stuff was great. Cabal, Toki, Beach Volley, Pang, Plotting, the unreleased Snow Bros... Ok Dragon Ninja and Ivanhoe weren't that good.

@topic

I was suprised about the Sensible Soccer playability, with such tiny sprites. A friend of mine was a Kick Off freak, but i still find it unplayable. SWOS was a dream then.

Retro, I dont understand KO mania either, iirc i scored only once during whole weekend i played that. No ball control at all.
SS catches you and you are lost.

I found OperationWolf jerky.. Cabal wasnt very good too,.. it didnt felt like the coinop, moreover I wasted a lot of grenades because of control system. I think Cabal losed colours althought being non-scrolly game. At the time SpecialFX would have made pixelperfect conversion, imho.

Dragon ninja control also made the game suffers in gameplay department, althought it wasnt all that bad., and well.. was the very first Amiga game I had.

Also Beach Volley was very nice idea, but it hasnt much lastability.

Respect Ivanhoe, what a pity. I thought that game were going to be a cool 16bit experience.. but in the end, I had a lot of Spectrum games which moved smoother than this, and with better response to joystick. A pity, really.. too much AtariST feeling for my taste.

Apart of that Pang was excellent!! and Toki too!! and well.. SnowBros and LiquidKids =)

yes dragon ninja and cabal were ST in mind and code

But all others were made by talented coders.

Pang for exemple use dynamic palettes. It's not possible to take screenshot from an amiga
directly since colors are change (amiga display trick)

Special FX made an oustanding port of Midnight Resistance. But check their other Amiga games, mainly horrible stuff.

I guess that Goal! in the old times was a hard and impossible gameplay to me,I never thought it would be one of my five favorite games.

Fly Harder had excellent graphics but total useless for playing in the old times, now it's of the best ones for me.

Turrican 2 was a crap for me in the old times, now I like the game but no too much.
