Help please connecting to internet with Prism2 PCMCIA

Hello again,

Well so much for not asking anymore questions… <sigh>

I am currently trying to get my A1200 OS3.0 desktop online. I am not having a lot of luck.

I bought and Easynet wifi PCMCIA card, Easynet Pro software and drive floppy from Amiga Kit and am now just stuck, here’s how far I have got.

• Installed the card
• Installed the Prism2 drivers
• Installed Easynet Pro
• Easynet can see the card and read its mac.
• Installed MiamiDX10
• Followed all the instructions on the paper manual that Amiga Kit supplied.
• Easynet Pro can see all the available wifi networks, including mine.
• I have entered the wifi password into easynet.
• I contacted my ISP and obtained, my IP address, subnet mask, dns server details etc for miami init as it could not find these automatically. I suspect because its not communicating with the internet correctly.
• Tried to ping 8.8.8.8 from the cli, bytes sent but none received.
• Tried to run Aweb, but no connection at all.

Could someone suggest where I need to start debugging this?

Many thanks in advance, I suspect this is going to take a while to get working.

If you can see wireless Network, prism2 install should be fine.

What wirelessmanager tells you if you run it from shell like wirelessmanager prism2.device -v

What kind of security you use with your router? My Prism2 cards works only with WPA and TKIP. Not with WPA2 and TKIP or AES.

Did you install Prism2 with this installer http://aminet.net/package/driver/net/prism2v2 Installer add wirelessmanager running from user-startup and generates settings file. What is in your prism settings file?

Another thing is that you should set up your wireless router to do NAT Network. (Put thos public IPs to your router) That way you would have your own DHCP server leasing Private IPs for you Computers.

Hi,
Many thanks for the reply.

Running wirelessmanager prism2.device -v gives the error wrong number of arguments, which suggests I have a different version to you, I have version 1.3. Running without the -v gives:

Code:
Trying to associate with 30:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (SSID=’PlusnetWirelessxxxxxx’ freq=2437 Mhz)
Authentication with 30:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx timed out
(where the xx’s are hex numbers)

Sorry I don’t know about the security, how do I find out?

I installed the driver from a floppy that came with the package.

I have
Code:
 run <>NIL: C:Wirelessmanager prism2.device
In user-startup, but I cannot find its settings file. Where should it be and what should it contain? Can you post yours?

In the meantime I’ll try the Aminet download you suggested.

I think that settings file is in S: drawer. Wirelessmanager uses it anyway.

Prism2 installer is very easy, it just asks device number (usually 0), name of Wlan to connect and password.

Note that any TCP/IP stack doesn't have any way to actually know it wireless is connected or not.

I use Genesis wich doesn't have DHCP clien (automatic IP settings client) and I need to set up static IP manually. Miami has working DHCP client. I think that EasyNet is also based to AmiTCP (just like Genesis is) and it doesn't have DHCP client either.

What you can tell about you wlan modem? Model and manufacturer? Can you use Win or Linuz machine to configure it?

I think it is prob... not WPA + TKIP

Routers are usually config'd via a Browser

Go to 192.168.0.1 (or whatever yours is)
you will prob... be asked for a Name + Password
may be something like admin + root

He need to get manual first. His router offers him public IPs. So router settings IP is not obivous. Frim his earlier post I got impression that he has only Amiga in that network.

Do you have windows machines connected to same wifi? If so what they tells you if you open cmd (command prompt) and type to it ipconfig and press enter?

Explain your home network and internet access and how this Amiga fits into your existing home. (flat)

Your wireless router, how do you connect a phone to it or other device?

Your provided wifi router is probably a WPA2 N/AC, and you need a b/g wifi connection

The wireless settings file should reside in ENV:sys/wireless.prefs.

And it's
Code:
WirelessManager prism2.device VERBOSE

My router is a Tecniclor TG582n, its wireless plus 4 wired ports. I have a number of PCs on the same network, all connect wirelessly the same way.
  1. Scan for my router
  2. Enter the router password
Nice and simple.

The router is configured for wpa-pst+wpa2-pst. I Googled the router and found this info - The Technicolor TG582n is a high performance router. With 802.11b/802.11g/802.11n

Whats a b/g wifi connection? Is the info above?

I'll post the results of wirelessmanager prism2.device verbose later, its a lot of text, some of which contains password info which Ill have to edit. What I can say is that it finds my router in a list of about 5, trys to associate with it, cancels the scan, fails in some way I don't understsnd and then adds my router to a blacklist. It then tries all the other routers it found, failing as their names are wrong before clearing the blacklist and starting again.

Redacted output from ipconfig from a windows10 pc connected to the same network

At present the Amiga does not fit anywhere into the network as it won't connect ... <sigh>

connect to router config page and see if it's set to auto or only N type network.
You need it set to allow B type for amiga card.

If those IPs are something like 192.168.X.X then you can safely tell them here. Those are private addressis and anyone doesn't have any use for them.

You need to use IP address from same range than your PCs.

If your PC get address like 192.168.1.105, you could assume, that DHCP pool is 192.168.1.100 - > so take ip address below that for you amiga like 192.168.1.90.

Use same gateway address and subnet.

PS. gateway address is your router's management address. Put it to Web browser address bar and press enter. It should ask user name and password. Those are admin and password is device's serialnumber.

And so on…
The only thing I'm wondering about in that is the frequency - 2412 MHz is that correct? Shouldn't it be 2400 MHz (2.4 Ghz as the router) The rest of might as well be in Chinese to me

Finally my wireless settings file, redacted
Code:
# EasyNet Wireless Settings <BEGIN>
network={
ssid="PlusnetWirelessxxxxxx"
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
psk="xxxxxxxxxx"
mode=0
}
# EasyNet Wireless Settings <END>
network={
	ssid="PlusnetWirelessxxxxxx"
	#psk="xxxxxxxxxx"
	psk=7dxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
}
I hope that this info helps.

Try to empty your wireless settings (do note that you have two copies of your network for some reason) and write a new one:
Code:
network={
ssid="PlusnetWirelessxxxxxx"
psk="your password in plaintext with quotes"
}

Many thanks for the suggestion. Sadly it did not work and I still cannot connect.
Other things I have tried
  1. Changing the mode line from mode=0 to mode=1 This causes the data light on the card to flash as if it is connected, rather than as if it is polling but wirelessmanager still reports failure to connect and ping 8.8.8.8 fails
  2. Adjusting the Amiga's date and time I dont have a rtc so it was defaulting to Jan 1978. Sadly this had no effect either
In short I am totally stuck. Hellllp!

A few people have already said about TKIP. Ensure your AP is configured for TKIP not AES encryption. It looks like that could be the issue based on your log.

Sorry, I don't know what AP means could you explain? How would I configure it differently?

<edit>

OOPS! I've just realised that AP probably means access point - in other words my router. - Its settings are below, as you can see it is set to both TKIP and AES.

Code:

Broadcast Network Name:	Yes
Allow New Devices:	New stations are allowed (automatically)
Security Mode:	WPA-PSK
WPA-PSK Preshared Key:	xxxxxxxxxx
WPA-PSK Encryption:	TKIP&AES
WPA-PSK Version:	WPA&WPA2

Yep - that's right - it looks like it is set OK (TKIP&AES), but I have had issues with some APs that need to be set as "TKIP" only. Might be worth a try changing it to TKIP only as a test.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I can't find any way of changing the encryption method to just TKIP in the router, the web settings just don't give that option.

Does anyone else have a Technicolor TG 582?

Is it possible to change the WPA encryption to just TKIP? I can't.
