It depends on your Kickstart version. If you have v3.1 you can use OS3.5 and OS3.9 too.

Maybe you want to try a preinstalled ClassicWB with useful tools and programmes.

If you don't give a monkeys about eye-candy run WB 2.05 over your 3.1 kickstart.
..? Why? Ultra-fast boot, low memory & resources footprint, and that 3.1 KS means later (better) versions of important bits 'n bobs. You can also softkick 1.2-3.0 when the need arises. Before I get lynched: This is how my '060 A1200 came when I bought it. (+earlier KS's ready to soft-load on a boot menu) This turned out to be the ideal gaming + power setup once I sussed what it was about... ...shame I buggered it up. Used WinUAE to back up the HDD prior to installing 3.9. At that point I discovered the double-whammy: -3.9 is really only for emulators. (power systems) -WinUAE didn't understand the HDD format so the backup didn't take. (fast IDE adapter) P.S. ClassicWB is great but if it's not your cup of tea there are lots of other pre-rolled WB's out there if you don't feel like doing your own. P.P.S. I get the feeling you're building a 'gaming rig'. You've already got as much stuff as you need (on the way). Owning an Amiga can get very expensive if you get out of control. |

Not sure about 3.5 but I definitely don't recommend using 3.9 on an 030 or even a slow 040. I'd stick with 3.1 if I was you.

Aye, price is a bit steap, is it because parts are so rare? I'll leave OS as-is, but i do think that the recent Amigaos looks very nice, does amigaos use afterstep window manager? |
