Amiga arcade conversions
What were the best and worst of Amiga arcade conversions?
I believe the best one's to be (rated with smilies): Rainbow Islands Silkworm R-Type (still think it could of been closer to the original) New Zealand Story Super Hang On Space Harrier Pacmania Ghosts n Goblins Ghouls n Ghosts Saint Dragon Dragon Breed Bubble Bobble (could of been better - ST port ) Arkanoid (Can't find a downloadable adf BTW Klax Blasteroids The worst one's: Pit Fighter (crap game anyway) Bionic Commando (coz of the awful scrolling) Sidearms (another ST port) Outrun Outrun Turbo Bombjack (though not completely terrible, surely a better job could of been done than this ST port - I dont like my favourite game not given the treatment it deserves) Strider (what happened to the size of the sprite did they get Rick Mranis to shrink him or something?) Arkanoid 2: Revenge of Doh (what happened the first one was a perfect conversion and had extra levels) LED Storm (ST portover again - good music though!) Stunrunner Well I am sure there are plenty of others but I am going on my memory of ten or more years as I only play these games on MAME now and havnt played these on an Amiga for years. Can't be bothered to play them on an emulator except for Arkanoid coz of the xtra levels if and when I find it!. You can't beat the emulated real thing unless you play the REAL thing of course! |

Sorry Akira taht makes me sad
They are only smilies after all! I was interested on what you had to say as when it comes to retro games you are one of the most knowledgable and generally has good taste. |

Personal list
There are only a few arcade conversions I have played on Amiga. Here is my rating IMHO (on a scale from 1 to 5)
Afterburner **** (I quite like this game) Bonanza Bros ** E-swat * (after playing it for two rounds I erased the disc) Final Fight ** Ninja Spirit *** Operation Thunderbolt *** Operation Wolf ** (It takes ages to get into the actual game) Rainbow Islands ***** (Best arcade conversion ever) R-Type 2 *** (A tad too slow when crowded) Side-Arms * Street Fighter 2 * (I never liked the hype that surrounded this game) |

I don't have time to make a list right now, but since nobody will mention it, I always liked Toobin' from Domark, even if the controls took a lot of getting used to. And while not really an arcade port of Tron, I liked Tech, which was based on the light cycles sequence.

Impressive
You are THE Amiga Database. I tried to find an arcade-conversion that is not in your list but failed.
Now, will you add your personal score to each game in the list? Edit: Ha! I have found a game that is not in your list: Terminator 2: the Arcade game by Virgin in 1993. |

If I put on my thinking cap, I'd probably be able to add to the list, as well...

I loved Space Ace
Dragon's Lair I wasn't too fond of, but I think that was because I never had any of them on disk Space Ace came in a compilation pack with my first A500 and I loved it |

Conference Call
In a conference call with Twistin', we have come to the following conclusions:
-Dragon's Lair 1 Part 1 -Dragon's Lair 1 Part 2: Escape From Singe's Castle These were originally released in the arcades as one game, but as two releases on the Amiga. -Dragon's Lair 2: Time Warp Originally released in the arcades -Dragon's Lair 3: The Curse Of Mordread No arcade version. Likely that Amiga version was first -Space Ace 1 Originally released in the arcades -Space Ace 2: Borf's Revenge No arcade version. Likely that Amiga version was first |

Corrections!
Batman Returns
Not an arcade port. Battletoads Not an aracde port, it's a NES port. The arcade game is completely different. (check here ) Castlevania NES port. Though the arcade game is running NES hardware . oh well I digress Darius+ NOT, NOT an arcade conversion!! Dunno how Taito aproved this bitch, has NOTHING to do with Darius except the name. A shame. Out Run Europa Not an arcade conversion. Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo AGA Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers AGA Forgot to add Super Street Fighter 2 - The New Challengers ECS , andI never saw Turbo really. I think they called Turbo to the HD version, but is it really teh Turbo version? A screenshot is VERY apreciated. Teenage Mutant Hero/Ninja Turtles (Image Works) This game is not an arcade port and it sucks Space Harrier 2 Not an arcade port, there is no such arcade game. Strider 2 Not an arcade port. Strider 2 was released in 1999 for ZN-1 hardware Super C Can I be picky again here and say this is another of those NES hardware arcade games? Ok, I think that's all. Now I cant think of any more Amiga arcade ports, will check later! |

Thanks for all the info Akira! By port, I mean the machine that the game originally appeared on...
Batman Returns You could be correct. I'll check. Battletoads Well, the Amiga game mentions Rare and Tradewest on the titlescreen. Castlevania Originally a NES game, then? Darius+ While the Amiga version doesn't have the resolution of the arcade machine (something like 800x200), it does have graphics that look the same. Do you think that this was unofficial? Out Run Europa Maybe you are right Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo AGA Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers AGA I'm pretty sure that both of these are arcade machines. Teenage Mutant Hero/Ninja Turtles (Image Works) Space Harrier 2 Strider 2 Okay! Super C What did Contra originate on? |
