42 turnpin sockets ..rare ??
So ..in preperation for the imminent arrival of the 27C800 chips I have on order ..I decided to create a suitable plug in base for my second A500.
The chip will be programmed with 2x kickstarts ...bank selectable using pin 1 A18 ..and using gnd and +5v However 42 pin IC bases of the turned pin variety are rare as rocking horse dump. Thus I canabalised a couple of 40 pin sockets and created a removeable sandwich ..which will leave pin 1 and pin 42 (not needed in the original KS socket) overhanging but means I dont have to cut pins on the 27c800. That way if I want to reprogram the chip later I still have intact pins. You can see how this was constructed by adding extra pins to a 40 pin socket. rgds VS Last edited by Vipersan; 20 April 2024 at 22:33. |

Brand name dual wipe sockets are also totally fine. 3M makes a good part.

Well ..the 27c800 eproms finally arrived ...
programmed KS 1.3 into bank 1 KS 3.1 into bank 2 ...then fitted a switch with 1k resistors to gnd and +5v ..so no hard power spikes when the switch is used. centre pin of the switch to A18 of the isolated pin 1 of the 27c800. Works great and a cheap-ish and easy dual boot for my unmodded A500. Nice Last edited by Vipersan; 17 April 2024 at 11:10. |

Thanks for the link Daedalus.. I may well order a few of them ..as I much prefer turned pin sockets to single or even dual wipe sockets. rgds VS |

From the same place I linked to: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/dil-sockets/7022808/
Available for next-day delivery in the UK, and probably in Italy too. |
