Amberworlds became Albion.
Thalion cannot provide any more unreleased work because their Amiga 2000 backup server was accidentally left behind (and subsequently thrown away) several years ago when Eric Simon left Bluebyte. |

Parts of the story, the improved 3D engine, some of the graphics became BlueByte's Albion. There was going to be an Amiga version of Albion at first, the A1200 demo's (there are two of them) are available.
http://web.archive.org/web/199710220...es/amidung.htm http://aminet.net/package/game/demo/albion They could not use the characters or place names from the Amber universe because they still belonged to Thalion. |

And, of course, there is no source code left of it ?

Not unless the individual authors kept a copy. The office server was thrown away as I said.

...yes... the 3D engine in Albion was quite good: nice shadings, fast, 256 colors. Much better than Ambermoon.

I take it you mean the PC version and not the A1200 demo?

Although are we sure two different demos existed? Since the readme for the Aminet one links to that same page. |

One of the demo is of an inside dungeon with innocuous textures, could be any 3D dungeon demo.
The other is outside and uses the textures and characters even HUD you see in Albion on the PC. There are screenshots of both in HOL http://hol.abime.net/5117/screenshot |

A WHDLoad version would be great for my modded Xbox 1, just saying.

HDF creator, eh ?
It shouldn't be too difficult to build an HDF for Ambermoon directly. Follow the instructions from that thread, and just skip whdload parts. |

No it doesn't.

PRELOAD is for non OS legal games to buffer the entire game into memory to prevent WHDLoad OS context switching. The Ambermoon HD installer is OS legal, supports HD caching if enabled. Preload is not needed! It will run as smooth as any Preload WHDLoad slave. Vs, right click, left click, left click. Jebus you lazy git! |

@alexh
I would have said the main reason for doing a WHDLoad version would be to provide bug fixes for the original in an easy to install way. But I expect that just bundling up the bug fixes for the regular released versions and giving them an installer and uploading it to aminet would be just as good. |
