I would not intentionally build a game to damage peoples eyes and I would not recommend running Turbo Sprint in interlace mode.
I am sorry if I offended in any way, was not my intention, since it is a SPLENDID conversion, but when using interlaced mode on the normal amiga monitor it is not very pleasant to play. As you said, on a modern display things are different.

The arcade conversions that jotd is doing and (I think) what is intended here are run on standard A500 with CRT screens, which gives them that extra arcade feeling. I love playing Scramble on the CRT monitor, would not look the same on the LCD....

I had big issues with interlace mode on Turbo Sprint and mcgeezer even proposed a refund (which I refused since the port is awesome). In the meantime, I changed my LCD monitor and it works fine.

Using hires is always a bit "risky". But if you're doing a port of a hires game, you have no choice. For Turbo Sprint, it would have ended up with a slightly better version of the ST version of Super Sprint, which we already have...

We have already Major Motion on the Amiga, which is already an "enhanced" version.

I really did like that game back then :-).

And mcgeezer's port of TurboSprint is brilliant, especially the resolution.

Let's call that Major Ripoff.

Doesn't ring a bell as a good game to me But it looks good

[ Show youtube player ]

(Zeus channel, not under SGT, already a good sign )

not high res, not high speed, but the graphics are good.

Honestly I never played SpyHunter, but I did like Major Motion . And the graphics are not too bad compared to SpyHunter (i.e. I think they're better )

someone knew that a 1:1 port was tough

30 years ago, everyone wanted NOT to make a 1:1 port of old games. They wanted to "enhance" them (there are exceptions, like Toki or Pang, but I'm talking about more ancient games like before 1985)

Check all the pacman clones, the scramble versions, Martin Pengo... they all have "better" graphics, copperbars, etc... But playability is average, and it lacks the arcade feel or any similar A.I..

Timber, Tapper and Rampage used a similar engine
You could do something crazy like a background made of 2x2 pixel grid while sprites are usual 1x1 BUT in two frames alternating fast to simulate interlace :P

I could of sworn the Amiga had HW registers to push the screen around independent of the blitter etc, maybe i'm mistaken, ooh well.

yes, hardware scrolling, yes. But you have to "feed" the scrolling ... with the blitter

My winuae is perfectly centered on the default workbench, but certain games and apps are off center, I would expect a performance drop if the blitter was involved, that is not the case. You can change the postion of the screen independant of word boundery of the blitter. I shall shut up now for fear of makeing myself look like a total idiot.

Anyway, here is my Proof of Concept, I'm going to finish my sprite sheet before i move forward. And if you are wondering about the title screen, i feel it will probably look like the arcade but play more like the Spectrum version
