Blizzard 1230 and RAM touching the cpu

Hi, I recently bought a new 128MB RAM 72 pin SIMM module for my blizzard 1230 but unfortunately I can't lock it in because it touch on the 030 cpu. Is there anything I can do to still use it?

I believe I have seen rubber bands used to hold the ram in place? But not sure.

Yeah I used to use the old rubber band back in the day but in the end put the bigger module on my scsi kit and bought a low profile module for the card.

Ok thank you. So isn't dangerous having a ram chip touching the cpu, right? No problems with temperatures?

I’d refrain from using a rubber band why? The heat inside the case will make the rubber perish and before you know it you will be getting crash out issues as the RAM module won’t be making proper connection.

As for heat issues. You should be okay as long as you have the correct MHz CPU and it is not being over clocked. But saying that the 030 blizzard I use can heat up.

The best solution I’m afraid is to source a lower profile SIMM. Or if the 030 is using a socket then look to have the 030 CPU directly soldered to the board to save on height to fit the current SIMM.
