PPC emulation for winuae
If OS4 for classics becomes available. Will we ever see PPC emulation on winuae? Or maybe on a PPC hosted version of UAE?

Why in hell PPC emulation? Only for OS4? WinUAE/JIT is muuuuch faster than every real PPC machine.

I've got a funny feeling this has been discussed before...
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=24309 http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=27770 Amongst others, I'd imagine. EDIT: Like this one (a more eccentric example): http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=31267 Last edited by Graham Humphrey; 22 October 2007 at 23:22. |

I realized how much WarpOS sucks when I played QuakeII, Wipeout + Wipeout 2097 on my P1 200mhz system imho Shogo + Heretic II are the worst examples, the other PPC games are quite playable I bet you only get half of the performance due to the context switches from WarpOS |

Why on earth do you want to play these under emulation - aren't the PC native versions of those games far superior anyway? Working CDTV emulation will be far more useful.

doesnt bother me though, pushed through doom at 9fps on 030/50 quakeII works just as well without screaming fps (around 15-20 on bppc) , but shogo/heretic2 suffer quite badly although i pushed through and finished h2. shogo was to much its only in the most recent games (last 3-4 years??) where low fps kills the game as the old games actually skipped frames to keep game speed moving. now they have to show every frame so low fps kills them. i never got 3d support working with voodoo way back then, so for me it turned out better on amiga then pc this is one game that runs very nice even on cheapest amiga ppc hardware. Imnot pushing to support ppc emu by the way.. just saying what it was like when i cared to use the miggy. emulating the miggy environment every now n again is plenty for my amiga fix now on speedy pc Last edited by Mad-Matt; 23 October 2007 at 09:54. |

PPC may be useless for gaming and serious stuff since most/all games/applications are available on PC. But, I guess OS4 would breathe new life into the classic Amiga. Who is not curious to know what OS4 is like? In the mean time, we have to wait until OS5 "is done"

Come off the fence Toni!
There's no need to beat about the bush, tell us what you really think. It would be nice if there was an emulator that OS4 will run on - Until OS4 x86 arrives... ... ... ... ... ... I have to content myself with curiosity only. PearPC..? |

Apple is able to do PPC emulation on Intel Mac's, they are doing G3 or maybe even G4 emulation I think. It works very well and most of it is transparent to the user.

Maybe another programmer can write a PPC model for Toni that can be included with WinUAE. JIT was made by someone else after.

Answer is still NO. I never add anything PPC specific to WinUAE. (of course I can't prevent others to fork it) Seriously, if you want PPC emulation and run OS4+, patch/hack/etc PearPC (or something like that). PPC classic emulation will be totally pointless and really slow. warning: this will get quickly locked if... Last edited by Toni Wilen; 25 October 2007 at 08:18. |
