A little bit of ography to enhance your Easter Sunday

Hi All,

Just got back from a trip to visit the family, and while there, aside from a faintly terrifying come dine with me/masterchef style meal I foolishly offered to cook for them, I had a rummage around in the garage. Guess what I uncovered.
Alas the battery on the 1240 has leaked, though fortunately the A500+ had its battery removed some time ago, there is still a little creeping greenness around Gary's legs, but he's going to be pulled out anyway and replaced with the Gary board of a 1MB ram expansion (Trying to get 3MB in the trapdoor, I've read that it will work, somewhere.)

For the price of you cooking a meal, that is quite the haul!

A 1240, a VXL030 WITH the RAM expansion, a 590 and a HC8!! You have been a very lucky chap indeed.
What's the board under the VXL? Is it THIS?

It is indeed an inboard 500, couldn't find the box unfortunately, things keep getting moved around since they're preparing to move about a year from now and are clearing stuff out and moving stuff to redecorate.
I should point out that they're all my bits that have been acquired from various sources over the past 10 years, with the exception of the 1240 which was new from eyetech in 1998 or thereabouts. My current thinking is to sell the 1240 if it still works or can be fixed by me after the battery is removed and it's cleaned up, and likewise the 590, though I never made that work in the first place, then get a nice Blizzard 030 for the 1200, and upgrade the a500 as much as possible into some kind of super-500

With the expansions you have for the 500+, you are pretty much at the "Super 500" stage already.

Right now I seem to have a collection of bits that don't quite work together properly, though I can get to a kickstart screen and get some activity from the HD+8, so probably just the 500+ needs a good clean and de-greening

@Secret Vampire

You have a very nice VXL*030 there sir, looks like the 40mhz version too.

With the HD8+ (if its got ram in) its likely to conflict if the 32bit ram on the VXL*030 if its memory address has been to the low end of the 24bit space.

Yes this card has the feature of putting the 32bit accessible memory into 24bit space thus you can DMA to it (drastically improving performance) as the 030 can then use 32bit Burst Mode

with this you should be able to achieve around 6.5 mips comftably =)

You might want to replace the 2.0 Kickrom on the memory card to a 3.1 for better compatibility

Alas the one I have has developed a fault and is intermittent - works one moment and then not the next - sigh......

Now, hit me up on PM and I will send you a replacement F74D and Programmed ROM for your 040, with a bit of luck I am sure we could get it going again.

For cleaning the unit, grab some diluted car-wash and an electric toothbrush from poundland - then have at it for a few minutes.

becareful incase any tracks have lifted, but I am pretty sure you know what you are doing.

All in all a great haul chap, and one I am sure you are happy to be re-united with =)

now...

If your folks would like I can also come over and cook them dinner =) so I can have a rummage in thier garage too lol!

Nice VXL-30 - I used to have the 40Mhz version until it got killed in a move. (8MB ram too)
I sold it off for parts, but I hope it got fixed and used!
