Athanor 2, Legend of Birdmen for the Commodore Amiga (Physical edition)
Hello fellow EABers,
for 4 years, I worked in my spare time with Eric Safar, Angel Bautista, David Vandensteen and Vincent Jambut on the Amiga version of Athanor 2. Athanor is a cycle of adventure games, started on the Oric Atmos, then the CPC and C64 machines. This sequel of the first episode brings the player into a voyage in the ancient Greece and even further. It was designed in the tradition of the French point & click games (Explora/Chrono Quest, Black Sect, ...) Athanor 2 was first released on the CPC, then on the Atari STf/STe. Last summer the Amiga version was released, on physical edition only. The Physical edition includes : - a big (solid) box - 3 disks (880KB) - a set of physical clues to help you in the adventure - the user manual - an additionnal flyer for the Amiga version - a mysterious key that opens the doors of paradise Here's a photo of the content (courtesy of @predseda) : The game features high standard specifications for the Amiga OCS range of computers : - 60 different places - 320x200 32 colors - 500KB of protracker modules - digitized sound fx - requires 1MB of ram (512K CHIP+512K FAST or 1M CHIP) - installable on hard drive, compact flash, ... If you want to order the game (39€ Tracked shipping included for European union) please follow this link or send an email to eric(at)safargames.fr : http://www.safargames.fr/index.php/7...world-premiere A preview of the game can be found here: The game itself is an adaptation (and not a port), based on the Atari ST version of course, so that players on the 2 machines will experience exactly the same adventure. However, the 'game engine' on the Amiga was written from scratch in C langage, making an extensive use of the Commodore's multimedia API (graphics.library). All the graphics and sounds are taking the most of the OCS chipset. Coding-wise, I enjoyed a lot working with this AmigaOS API and we can consider is was highly advanced back then (1985....), allowing to control almost every part of the Amiga chipset in a clean and OS-friendly way. This is probably something like DirectDraw ... 10 years before I hope people will enjoy the game (I know some of the EABers here already purchased it). The game has a couple of reviews in the recent Amiga paper magazines too, namely Amiga Future and Amiga Addict. If you have any question, feel free to ask. |

It's a shame there is not an option -yet- to buy this game digitally.

I see, although I feel this is a bit of a weird choice in 2021, with the digital distribution potential. I hope there will be ways for non-collectors to buy and enjoy a digital version of this game later on.

A nice and honest review by @Predseda
https://www.lemonamiga.com/games/rev...iew.php?id=500 I like that the reviewer mentionned the fact that the Amiga version is far more graphically advanced than the Atari ST version (even if both received the equal amount of attention in the making). |

I did the review of Athanor 2 for the Amiga Future Magazine.
Just released beginning November. Great Game. I am involved in the boxed release of the four Disk Adventure "Legend of Falconia", personall... But I am declared Athanor 2 as the best Game this year. Eric got a free Paperback Issue of this issue from me. I also hope that Athanor 1 get an Amiga release. |

@astrofra Very nice work, the game looks amazing! Congratulations!
Has the game been tested to run on, say, an A1200, accelerated or otherwise? |

I tested it on a A500+ with 2 MB just to play from Disk, an A600 4MB and 020 from Disk and HD and an A1200 with OS 3.1.4 and 030 from Disk and HD.
On the A1200 from HD I have to use the boot options "original". Without the "original" boot options the items which I try to collect disappear on screen. |

I recently did, when I bought the game 2 weeks back. Received the game last Thursday. It may take a few days before he reacts. Probably busy.

This looks fantastic!! Are you planning to make a digital (paid of course) version of it??
In some countries (like mine (Argentina)) receiving packages from abroad is not easy (there are a lot of customs restrictions). ?? |
