ScummVM - crazy restore crack

i was just reading into the ScummVM notes of their latest 2.5.0 release

and i noticed this little info :

"Repaired clumsy crack in Maniac Mansion (enhanced)'s keypad script.
This means that the GOG and Steam versions will no longer accept incorrect
numbers, e.g. for Edna’s phone number. (Why are they selling a cracked
version anyway?!)"

now i don't know what is the crazier thing, restore the password codes on an already cracked version, or selling a cracked game in first

Sometimes it's ScummVM that bypasses the protection not GOG or Steam! BUT in the case of MM on GOG or Steam then that must be with the permission of the copyright holder, they can't just sell 'cracked' copies of games without someones permission!

Unless i understood it wrongly, they are not restoring password codes - they are restoring something else that got damaged by a bad crack.

It is quite frequent in scumm games that a crack has the side effect of another totally irrelevant part also always accept bad input. Here, if you attempt to phone to Edna, it works regardless of the number you type (and really shouldn't as this is normal game working, not game protection).
Seen the same thing in Indy Last Crusade (with the pyramid IIRC).

but at least bizarre the 'cracked' (or better badly modified then?) release on sale thing;

"This GOG.com distribution includes both of two PC releases; the original version with 160x200 graphics and the enhanced version with 320x200 graphics. The original version has no problem --it is non-protection release.

But the enhanced version is manual-protection release and the distribution does not include a document "Nuke'm Alarms Owner's Disarmament Quick Reference Guide" for solving the manual protection (security door at second floor).

By default, the distribution launches the game on SCUMMVM, that disables the manual protection; the security door has already opened. But it disables not only the security door but also any other passcode-based locks."

Polish company... they can do many things, including sell br0ken game...

GOG still sell many 'broken' games and games with DRM, like Hitman GOTY that they removed due to forgetting to mention the 'DRM' requirement and their Cybercrap 'not fixed until 2077' garbage!
