Interesting magazine article in 1990 about Cinemaware
In April 1990 of ACE magazine there is a feature on Cinemaware and It Came from the Desert development. Thought some people might like to know why it's different to their other games.
https://archive.org/details/ace-maga...e/n40/mode/1up Page 41 onward. Also has a look at "from the designer of Defender of the Crown" Centurion too in the same issue. Last edited by CCCP alert; 05 February 2024 at 08:04. |

Ah nice, you see some of the tooling that was developed. I'm always fascinated by that.

It's nice to get some background into how their tools changed, it also explains why It Came from the Desert is so unique in their line up. I was reading about the downfall of Cinemaware on a site and it mentioned Wings was sort of rushed and the actual plan was to make more games like Desert, and proper CD versions for CDTV and PC CD until the whole NEC investment thing threw them off course.

I've read there's an Atari ST version of It Came From The Desert, but I literally can't find it anywhere. Is there at least any proof that they were developing a conversion?

It was mentioned in ST Action November 1990 and there are adverts saying it was "coming shortly" for PCs and ST. No proof of it ever existing for the ST in any form though as far as I know.

It's really a shame the game didn't come out for the STe or something, it would've been a decent port (Not as good as the Amiga of course)

A large proportion of the ST user base was 512k so given the declining sales of STFM and the failure of STE they probably shelved it by the end. I've never seen any ST specific stuff for it but ICftD was made with their new tools and maybe they never got around to getting that sorted for making ST games before getting bogged down with the PC-Engine CD port.
