Civ II runs great on Shapeshifter. The AI does lag sometimes just as it does when I played Civ III with a P3, or on Civ IV with an I5.

You need to remember that your 2023 demande are not on par with 1993 ones. Many (many) peoples played countless hours on Civ on the Amiga, both ECS and AGA versions, and personnally I'm still playing it nowadays on a configuration lesser than an A4000.

The Amiga version was very playable (and still is).

Agreed, and until I read idrouuge's post I had never heard anyone suggest that Civ was badly converted for the Amiga. I played it via emulation quite a bit last year, and even though I was playing the floppy version (back in the day we bought a hard disk in the mid 90s which made loading periods vastly shorter) it was enjoyable.

Do you mean C compilers?

Yeah. There's a thing here of demolishing everything Amiga related, to the point of over exagerating any flaws of the machine without any consideration for the reality.
Reading that Civ AGA was unplayable on anything less than a 68040 is an absolut distorsion of the reality, especially for a game that was supposed to be played at a slow pace.

Agreed. It was sluggish on an A500 (I didn’t know better back then, so didn’t care once the map generation had completed), but on a 1200 with fast ram and a second floppy (or ideally harddisk) it ran absolutely fine. Same as Colonization. I recall UFO needing an accelerator otherwise it got very slow when deep into the game, but even a 25mhz 030 was ok.
