Why not ? The Amiga outputs a perfect TV signal, it should work on all kinds of TVs. Just make sure the TV supports RGB input on the Scart connector, otherwise the quality might be poor. And of course even on a HDTV you won't get a higher resolution than 640x512 plus overscan.

did you make the lead yourself? Did you check to see if the lead has capacitors on it? Maybe try a different TV?

@THERAVEN:
Can you check if the scart cable works on a regular TV? @DDNI: The scart cable should not have any capacitors. Here you will find a correct schematic for an Amiga scart cable. @gotmashed: The composite output via the yellow rca connector will at best give an ok picture on a regular 50Hz TV. On a lcd or 100Hz TV which samples the signal digitally and thus are much more sensitive, a composite signal will give a quite crappy image quality. You should definately use a RGB scart to get an acceptable image quality on such equipment. Last edited by patrik; 10 June 2006 at 00:46. |

Ya scart lead is buggered then.
The amigadeals site is a good source for Amiga scart leads - cheap an' all. Might have one spare though. I'll have a look laters. At least you can use rf for the time being. Crap picture quality I know. |

Just a thought.... and probably an obvious one, but one I checked before buying a new one. Are all the pins in the Scart end straight (not bent in any way), and the actual casing round the scart isn't loose? No exposed wires or anything?
you never know.... |

Hmmmm..... confusing me why it works with your old monitor and not the two tv's or plasma tv now. Unless you have a custom-make scart lead that worked specifically for your old monitor instead of the standard Amiga to TV scart lead? If this is the case, pins may be wired differently to standard leads but I wouldn't have thought so.... Apart from that, I can't advise any further - sorry mate |

See you've edited your post....
8 pins are used in a standard Amiga to TV/Monitor Scart lead. I made a custom Amiga to Scart lead years ago and just found a schematic I used to make it which I'm pretty sure is the "standard" connections..... shoot me if I'm wrong. Scart side: Pin 15 - Red Pin 11 - Green Pin 7 - Blue Pin 20 - Composite Video In Pin 17 - Composite Video Output common Pin 6 - audio in - left channel Pin 1 - Audio in - right channel Pin 4 - Audio ground (earth) On the Amiga connector (DB23 female connector) Pin 3 - Analog Red Pin 4 - Analog Green Pin 5 - Analog Blue Pin 10 - Composite Sync Pin 16 - Video ground Pin 6 - Left phono Pin 2 - Right phono Pin 4 - Left and right phono Note: I believe though that Pin 8 required further modification to allow them to force full screen mode on all new models of tv's that use multiple display formats. Never got round to this though. Annoying thing is, I can't remember specifically what monitor I had at the time it worked with! extra note... It's been 11 years and my home-making projects are over. .... but ignore all that and try acquiring a new Amiga scart lead. At least now you've tested it on a few tv's with dead end results. |

@DDNI:
Aah, ok. @Quahappy: Yeah, you need to connect pin 8 of the scart via a 1kOhm resistor to pin 22 of the 23-pin dsub (+12V). Pin 16 of the scart also needs the correct voltage - it needs to be connected via a 150Ohm resistor to pin 22 of the 23-pin dsub. These tells the TV to use RGB input in the scart connector instead of the composite/s-video lines. Something which a rgb monitor most likely has per default. Btw, check out this schematics. @THERAVEN: Check if you have this connection in your scart. Also make sure there are no resistors on the red, green, blue and sync signals either on the dsub (pin 3, 4, 5, and 10) or scart side (pin 15, 11, 7, 20). It would probably be easiest to just get a new cable like Quahappy suggests thought. |
