weird startup-sequence problem (in use)

well I didn't really expect myself to be posting with a problem so soon, I've owned at leat 1 amiga since the late 80's, with 3 of them cluttering up my room currently

so... I do all my amiga stuff from winuae on my PC, and I've just upgraded to OS-3.9... suddenly my startup-sequence is "in-use" whenever the system is up and running, makes it a real pain when trying to edit something.

has anyone encountered this? or does anyone have some kind of idea, I've been at this for a couple days now and I'm no further towards figuring this out.

Yes, but I didn't know that it is a general "feature". It happens when installing AmiKit Beta. AmiKit tries to copy OS files from Amigaforever and when it tries to copy startup-sequence, it is in use. And it even stays in use if I choose "boot without startup-sequence" from the early-startup menu.

However, I never experienced it with a pure OS3.9 installation.

I have no idea what is causing it. Probably a bug in WinUAE's file system code.

Never had this sort of problem yet, but maybe you can get
rid of it when you go to the S: directory under Windows
and rename the _UAEFSDB.___ to _UAEFSDB.old p.a.
Make sure, that windows is configured to show all (hidden/sys) files.

Thank you both for the replies.

thomas, your first statement confuses me... not sure what you mean by you didn't know it was a general feature... but I also thought it was likely to be a fault of uae. I can try searching for amikit related problems, maybe find something there.

PeterK, I can't stand hidden files that's the first thing I do on every windows install I've ever done, show me my files! hehe But I disable UAEFSDB on my uae.

I just wanted to say that I didn't experience the problem with anything other than AmiKit. I did many installations of different AmigaOS versions on WinUAE and never had this problem before.

However, I didn't yet look into that _UAEFSDB,__ thing. Perhaps we should *enable* it if it was disabled before.

ah, I see...

and yes, I did play with it for some time yesterday, was something new to try, but I had no luck with it. I experimented with read-write flags, on the main dir, subdirs, and individual files both (tho maybe more out of desperation than sense ).

just to follow up a bit... the problem persists, but works fine when installed on HDF.
