PSU recommendations for 1200?
As the title, guys - any thoughts on a reliable but reasonably priced PSU for my 1200 (Pistorm32)? One of my original ones went down recently, I'm currently using an A600 one (very heavy) but it's time to do the decent thing and get something built in this century.
I lack any serious electrickery skills, and I'm not keen on anything USB based (I just am!) Appreciate any advice. Cheers. |

I opted for the Boost version: https://www.retropassion.co.uk/produ...v=79cba1185463 Modern circuitry & efficiency; Less Heat; Better Power delivery; So small & compact; Mines running Re-Amiga 1.5/PiStorm CM4 Combo @ 2.5Ghz. Worth every penny. |

(I know you said you don't want one but) I liked the idea of the PowerShark but they are sold out and it is very expensive.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I'll probably go for the Retro Passion one when they become available - and keep my fingers crossed in the meantime.

But please buy it from Electroware directly:

I'd ordered before I saw this, my friend. But there are some advantages for me buying from the UK. I get a UK plug fitted, and probably more importantly, since Brexit (which I personally think is a bloody disaster*) it makes the process more complicated and probably more costly. *Other viewpoints exist on this subject. |

For stable RPi you need at least 3A on 5V rail so probably you need something more beefier than regular Amiga PSU.

Personal thing for me, but if I was going to buy a PSU, I wouldn't buy it from Electroware based on the arrogance of their website. I know other people like their PSUs and that's fine, but they go on about being wary of copycats when all they're doing is putting an off-the-shelf PSU in a case, just like all the copycats they warn about (including I suppose the A-Power model suggested, which is exactly the same internal module as the standard Electroware unit). That kind of marketing is an instant turn-off for me. And that's not even getting to the point that the module they use doesn't even meet the Commodore specifications for their PSUs. Not that it's a significant issue in practice for the most part, but there are different modules that do that they could easily have used.

I fitted an internal 90W picoPSU in my PiStormed A1200. It involved soldering wires to the underside of the motherboard, even though I too lack any skills or experience of such things. Also had to drill the A1200's case for a power switch, socket, and to mount the picoPSU holder internally. Definitely not an easy solution, but very neat and satisfying.

Powershark USB C solution is very satisfying.

I mainly use my original A500 "heavy" linear PSU, it's the Speedy-tech 60w variety rated at 5v 4.3A, +12v 1.0a. This is on my A1200 with a Pi3a installed, and I have no issues.
I have fully recapped it and replaced the 2 variable resistors with static to fix the correct output voltages. works great. I also have a PSU I built using the Meanwell RPT-60b PSU, which also works great, and Im going to replace a dead SMPS with a Meanwell PT-65B. But, if I was going to go buy one tomorrow, it would be the IComp CA-PSU as that has the most research and over/under voltage protection from what I can see. |

I'd never heard of electroware before you mentioned them so i just looked them up here. Their PSU is using a Meanwell RPT-60b, same unit i built into an empty PSU case. they do offer what I assume to be a custom output voltage adjustment with overvoltage protection and additional filtering. While the RPT-60b works well enough and is tiny, i cant really recommend it. it doesnt have voltage adjustment, which meant i needed to shorten the cable to the Amiga to compensate for voltage drop. for a DIY project, i'd say, go with the PT-65b. Indeed, the PT-65B is the one I recommend myself.
