I remember seeing what is possibly the most pointless util ever. It played "Daisy, Daisy" with the drive heads! Sounds just like HAL. dont know if I've got it any where, so don't ask me for it.

I remember the sound of my internal A500k1.2 floppy drive, quite noisy

sometime the mechanical rhythm mixed with the audio output led to some strange jam sessions

also some original disks, seemed that the drive was about to spit them out, grated in some way

but strangely, after more than 30 years, they still works fine, floppy drive and disks

The song name was "Daisy, Daisy". I had that program and tried it one to two times on my A500.

Just search for Disk Drive Music on YouTube and you will all find a lot of it.

The floppy disk drive noises everyone remembers is down to a stepper motor that moves the head back and forth, either in single steps or many steps at once, resulting in the buzzing noise. I would think the stepper motor had enough work to be reading the disk's fragmented contents normally as it is, but to deliberately make it move back and forth so much would shorten the lifespan of the drive in no time at all, I would think.

I always found the sound the floppy disk makes when it's just been inserted and when it spins for the first time to be quite satisfying, however. Like a SCHLIP sound.

I think the better way to find similar programs, is to check into old PD scene?
i would like to test something, also via emulation, just for fun

I like it too, seems a soft approach, different from the rest of mechanical sounds

----
was watching this short tube video, emulated but VERY CLOSE to the feeling at the time, when the floppy drive added atmosphere to the game loading, or just disturb it, according to singular taste

I had another one, which played El Condor Pasa.

Crazy Cars 3 has a gloriously weird one, where at the end of loading it lets out a massive WHHHHIIIIIRRRRR [pause] WHHHHHHIRRRRRRR. The weird thing is that the drive light is off while its making the noise, but on during the brief silence. None of the cracks I've found manage to recreate that.

I always liked Hybris, cracked by Quartex. Just before the loadingscreen popped up, the diskdrive made some long WHHHHHIIRRRRRRRRR sounds. I am not sure if the official release disk made the same loading noise.

This post is beautiful!
I've always been fond of the sound the Floppy Drive makes when loading.
I loaded certain games on purpose to hear the sound of the Drive

Superfrog makes a nice thick sound during the initial "Accessing Disk" screen.
Super Hang On and Skweek, it seems like the Floppy drive is in a hurry
Hybris makes a really nice sound when loading, Altered Beast too........if I remember others I'll write them down.

Daisy Daisy, El Condor Pasa are there in adf?
Recommend me some other games or demos with particular sounds.

If you can think of any others, please let them know

This was spread around Finland at least. We were too afraid to break our own machines that used the school's Amigas to play the whole tune through.

I tested this on some newer Amigas with different floppy drive and it played the low notes well, but the higher ones sounded like the computer would soon spit out gears and rubber bands

Sorry, but what melodic sound are you talking about?

I tried to load Crazy Cars 3 on Amiga, the Disk Drive did not emit any particular sound. It seemed to me just a quiet loading, without strong or particular sounds.

But are you referring to Crazy Cars III (Titus) (1992)?

Ah, seems I had a quote failure there

Tried to quote on Jope on his El Condor Pasa posting instead.

I tried all the games you mentioned in the post.
I especially liked the sounds of floppy disk, Beast 3, Walker, Rock'n Roll, PP Hammer. Giana Sister's loading rhythm makes the power LED light dim. Handsome

STX,
With Dan Dare 3 I didn't hear any particularly loud loading sounds.
PP Hammer has a really nice hard tone.

Do you know any other games with a particular loading sound?
Where could I download the El condor pasa, and Daisy Daisy adf files?

Gary,
You really don't remember What game makes the floppy disk vibrate to the rhythm of music? I'd like to hear it

Watching the video I found it.
Thank you.

Do you know any other games that have the peculiar loading sound?

the Hybris pneumatic hammer like effect remains my fave

i liked also the fast xcopy sound when checking the fulldisk, single side

i think to remember two cracked disks that had a loud single sound when accessing to a single track

iirc Crazy Cars 1 and Test Drive II

I agree - when a disk is inserted it sounds like it's gleefully swallowed it and then smacking its chops/licking its lips in delight.

I think the 7 MHz Amiga models make the more severe drive sounds as I noticed they tend to struggle a bit with loading data from the drive whilst doing almost anything else at the same time.
