BigPEmu - Jaguar emulator

Just stumbled over this video: [ Show youtube player ]

A new Jaguar emulator that seems to work very well. You can grab it for free here: https://www.richwhitehouse.com/jaguar/index.php

That AvP footage is very promising. Will try it out over the weekend and see if it holds up.

nice, thnx! the emulator included in ATARI 50: THE ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION runs at least Tempest 2000 100% flawless (the only game I'm interested in...). they also wrote a new Jaguar emulator from scratch. I will test BigPEmu ASAP.

It's a great emulator. Everthing what i've tested worked fine. Smooth, no slowdowns. The coder is terminally ill and convinced Digital Eclipse to make it free for the masses. The same emu they've used for the Atari 50 Collection. Very sad story, but i guess it's a good legacy for him.

What a nice surprise.

The Retroarch shader converter is a nice bonus, crt-guest-advanced converts without a hitch.

I'm too dumb. Can you tell me exactly (which folders/files) how you converted the guest-advanced shader?

I watched one video in which the host was much more excited by the prospect of playing Atari ST game hacks through it, so very quickly switched to showcasing those. Either way, it's a fantastic development in an underdeveloped niche of retrogaming emulation.

Copy the
Code:
\shaders\shaders_slang\crt\
folder from Retroarch into folder with the tool.

Then run
Code:
rashadertrans crt-guest-advanced.slangp -subdir
A new dstack file and folder is created.

crt-guest-advanced
crt-guest-advanced.dstack

Copy newly created folder and dstack file to
Code:
\BigPEmu\Data\ScreenEffects\
Profit.

I couldn't get the Atari ST Ports to Jaguar working under emulation.. Only game that worked fine was Solomon's Key & R-Type was slow

I would say the Jaguar is one of my favorite consoles strictly just because of the memories I have playing it with my cousin who had one. Getting one myself this year was a highlight for a me. A new emulator for it makes me extremely happy to see.

I hadn't previously looked too deeply into the Jaguar's library of games. Now I have, what strikes me first is that the majority of them could easily be ported to 16-bit systems or are themselves ports from 16-bit systems. It's a similar scenario to our supposed step up to the CD32 where most titles were no more advanced than could already be run on current Amiga models. No wonder the system failed to take off. I won't get into the 32-bit + 32-bit = 64-bit argument.

Yep. Far too many 68k ports with no improvements and far too little games that stood out. Plus the exclusive titles for the most part sucked. Cybermorph and Iron Soldier really were counter-arguments to getting a Jaguar

I will try it later, I am curious because I did not find any stable Jaguar emulator so far, Project Tempest was good for only one game.

Not yet, but you can help:

Future Goals:
- Jaguar CD support.
I need your help with this one! Jaguar CD units are way too expensive, at least right now, and I don't have one. Please consider donating if you can spare either the hardware or money for one. If you do have a hardware unit that you're willing to donate (no temporary loans, please, I don't want to be responsible for lost/damaged hardware), please contact me.
