Anyway, I will see if the bugs persist after AMR is migrated to the new server and will report them to you then.

EDIT: Was AMR just migrated too? I don't remember it being migrated before. Redblade reported a problem the other day with the links to coverdisk downloads having gone missing:

Migration is now complete !
Cody has now control over the last, so you can make new report to him if your last issues persist

It was a a few months ago I think

Given that he posted there about the migration and asked us to report bugs, it's reasonable to expect that he'd be checking back there more than once a month like he does in the public areas of EAB.

I know RCK is a busy guy, as most of the HOL team are too (me included!), but there were one or two major HOL bugs from two previous server upgrades/migrations that EAB users and admins like myself had been reporting over and over for years. They didn't get any serious action from him until I absolutely hammered him about them the year before last. Funnily enough, they were fixed within hours of the hammering when they had been present for 10 years prior and had caused some major headaches for admins. who were updating/rearranging screenshots for HOL entries.

The last thing I want for HOL end-users (as well as the other admins and myself) is a repeat of that scenario with the new bugs that have reared their ugly head in the latest HOL migration. Incidentally, I didn't enjoy hammering the boss man either....because without him HOL would never have seen the light of day almost 20 years ago, but even RCK himself admitted that HOL was his first son that he hadn't any time to code for in years.
I confirm all of this

-> Bug report should be written on EAB to not be lost
-> Ping should be done to Cody and I by mail or pm

LOL! Some of these bug reports are for the parts of EAB/HOL I always seem to be too busy to use. But good work anyway!

Thanks RCK for the ongoing work you do around here! Also to CodyJarrett for his HOL fixes. I know you guys have personal lives so it's great to see things being maintained decades later.

awww heck. Thanks to everyone that works on or contributes to any part of abime.net.

So you can access then with or without encryption.

Be aware that some site like dream17 are linking to some static http ressources (jpg, css) which are blocked by most browsers (blocked:mixed-content).
Those websites should be updated with relative ressources path to render correctly with http + https. (no more src hardcoded like http://my.css, but simply /my.css instead)

Missing other websites will be added as soon as they will be migrated to new server. (sometime in the 6 next months, I hope )
It's been great to see the work undertaken by the team to modernise the server setup. It's never easy updating legacy setups, especially when there's so many of them which have evolved over a long period, with untold amounts of undocumented dependencies, both internal and external!

But can I ask, is the reasoning behind not enforcing SSL now in nginx down to concerns people are using older devices which wouldn't support it, or perhaps that there are other sites still using arbitrary HTTP links? No biggie as such, but it's easy to forget to manually add the HTTPS in the address bar if typing the URL.

I think that the issue is mainly about older Amiga devices that don't support https.

There's a recent discussion here about moving the HOL to HTTPS.

Thanks for the clarification. It does indeed make sense to keep HTTP for some of the informational sites. But tbh, when there's authentication involved, SSL should really be enabled imho. I'm sure those with older Amigas can find a more modern device for accessing the forums.

Actual version of iBrowse (version 2.5.x) works quite good with SSL sites. Of course most sites still look terrible but they can be loaded and basic information on the site can be viewed.

My thinking exactly. There are available options for Amiga users to browse SSL sites nowadays if they really want to.

Yes, as https is supported even on 3.x nowadays it's time to disable http.

I disagree: SSL is energy and effort consuming; it locks out/makes Amiga users' lives difficult; it doesn't answer any clear usercase in the context of EAB.

SSL is not really a use case, it is an expectancy of modern times. HTTP is deemed insecure and that realisation has bled through into the general public. Browsers start to treat such sites with hostility. There comes a point where you can't get out of it anymore even if you would want to.

PS. A very good read about HTTPs and its hidden costs.

At the very least the authentication could be moved to https even if you want to keep the data plaintext...

There's a crusade against HTTP sites led by Google, I guess to make people believe they are secure while they track every step of your life. Unfortunately not adopting HTTPS will lead to the site losing visibility and nobody wants that.
