Floppy Disk Drive rust treatment?

I have a few of these Mitsumi D357T2 floppy disk drives which are in fully working condition however I've noticed that they are all showing signs of what I think is surface rust due to age I guess.

Should I be concerned about this rust becoming worse over time or possibly even spreading? Is there any method to treating or refurbishing it?

I soaked mine in warm white vinegar for 20 mins and then gave it a gentle scrub. Mine came out looking as new and it was HEAVILY rusted @simon_m74 can attest to that!

Depends on many factors... you can remove shield and depends on your goal do few things - easiest remove stickers and clean a bit mechanically then applied some rust remover or you can apply some automotive reactive primer or search for service where galvanic zinc surface can be applied. This is probably outcome of how drive was stored - i would clean it mechanically (some brush) and eventually apply very thin layer of some silicone grease.
