Action replay 2000 trouble
Hello,
Recently I got myself an Action Replay MKIII from ebay. Unfortunately it came in one of the crappiest packages I've ever received (covered with air bubble sheet and wrapped around with pieces of cardboard torn from an amazon.de box). And it doesn't work when I plug it my A2000. Can it be because my A2000 is NTSC ? Does this thing need a specific agnus to operate ? My second question is, can I make my A2000 PAL by switching crystals and putting in a proper agnus ? |

1) no definite comment, as I've never tried the AR3 with an NTSC machine. Should work, however.
2) yes. |

What happens when you push the AR button? Nothing? Or does it crash/hangup the machine?

When I turn the machine on, it hangs at the light grey screen. Nothing happens when I push the button. If I turn the AR off with the on off button on the card, everything works normally without the AR.
I also tried with a PAL agnus. it doesn't boot as suspected, (constant rebooting from the light grey screen) but when I push the button, it tries to change the screen (failing of course). So I think the card is alive, tomorrow I'm gonna buy a PAL crystal and a socket and try with a PAL setup. I need a 28.48 crystal ? edit : ok crystal is 28.37516 Last edited by coze; 01 March 2007 at 17:44. |

I don't think the NTSC machine is the problem. The AR will toggle between the video modes. How much memory do you have on the A2000? I can't remember now what address the AR is located, but you can try reducing the A2000's RAM size to 1 or 2MB and see if that works.

Yes, there is definately an issue with memory - I couldn't use my side RAM expansion (8MB? 4MB?) on my A500 with the AR. I had to remove some of the memory to make it work. I imagine the same issue is with the A2000 as they are basically the same machine.
Also it might be worth cleaning the connectors. My AR has hung my A500 before and I've just removed it, blown on it and put it back. Works perfectly again. |

Also, which Kickstart does your A2000 have? Most versions of AR only work correctly with 1.3. The memory, as already said, can be a problem as well. Try reducing it to max. 1MB Chip and maybe 512k Fast and see if that helps.
