Stuck Network.....

Right.

I've set up this network.... Amiga A1200, with 64MB fast and 030/50 and FPU and all that crap. Netax1200 PCMCIA network card, running just fine with both Miami, MiamiDX and Genesis.

The other computer, is a WinXP thing, it has a USB-broadband connection, which I wanna be able to use with my Amiga A1200. I've tested several firewalls, (Zone Alarm, Wingate, Norton IS, to mention them) but to no avail

I'm totally stuck.

I've managed to set up a FTP on the PC to share files with the Amiga pretty easily, but I've been totally unable to do more than that. Ideas? Things I've might have overlooked? help

Can the XP machine see the A1200 in Net Neighbourhood?

You need a firewall that supports internet connection sharing if you insist on using something else than what is supplied with XP itself.

ICS is turned on by selecting the properties of your internet connection and going to the last tab..

Edit: perhaps we also need a prb.windows?

Roll eyes (sarcastic)

Are you using a router? If so the amiga needs to be directly plugged into the router, if its plugged into another PC then this starts to cause problems.

Also have you treid to add it to your network neighbourhood using \\(insert_amiga_hostname_here) ???

Smiley, this situation is not like yours.

The ICS is turned on for the USB ADSL connection and it automatically uses the PC's ethernet board as the internal network connection.

The Amiga is connected to the PC's ethernet connector with a crossover cable and then the Windows box routes the packets and translates the addresses.

Windows provides a DHCP server for the intranet once ICS is turned on, but if some other stack than Miami is used, then any ip from the 192.168.0.x range can be used (except of course .1, because that's the PC). The DNS server is 192.168.0.1 and the gateway is also 192.168.0.1. (netmask 255.255.255.0)

Windows ICS always sets the internal network card to 192.168.0.1

(hmm, a bit too many edits were required for this .. :-D)

If you read my first post, you will see why I can't connect the ADSL-modem directly to the Amiga, and thus use MiamiDX to make the WinSlows connect through that

I think waht I need, is to set up a software router on the PC......Windows ICS reuses to work with it, I've tried everything.

If anyone here is from England......would "Tesco BroadBand" mean anything?

Have you tried it with windows' firewall? Some 3rd party FWs stop ICS from working.

Also start a command prompt and type in ipconfig /all .. check to see that you don't already have an adapter that has an ip from the 192.168.0.0/24 range.

ahh, well, I'm going back home to Norway Tuesday.....and I'm taking Beloved with me.....should be able to figure out stuff on my computer, not so "dangerous" there using the "trial&error (c)" with my own XP machine

Anyroads.

If everything else goes wrong, I'll kill all firewalls at home (using dialup there) and see if that helps.if not.....well, I can live with an FTP on the PC for a few moments :P
