I was just wondering why we aren't allowed to post html? I can't think of any problems, but hey, that's just me

What would you like to post that you can't right now?

Keywords are XSS or Cross site scripting.

Well, that doesn't answer my question. Why would you want to post web pages?

It might be cool to have it as an option. I have wanted to post some stuff in the past, but found it impossible. One idea was to post a simple chat system in the ot-stupidity forum. That might have been fun!

Er, yeah. I really don't think all the grief and trouble it would cause is worth the "might be cool"-ness. And we already have a simple chat system, it's called IRC.

I thought the bit about grief and trouble was pretty interesting. And I can post wherever I want.

HTML on this board, considered how much are an hassle the abuses of simple pictures, often, would just unneedingly complicate things.
Also the OT zone is not the main area of this board so that it would justify such an effort, which, as eLowar says, is already more than covered by the irc Chat. after all, one of the perks of Eab is to be a perfectly readable board, not some myspace mock-up. |

Yes because people only think from A to B!
If HTML gets allowed, JavaScript must be disabled and disfunctional in posts. This way, I would not see any security hole. HTML is static ... no life inside. ![]() |

And besides that you also need mechanisms to prevent HTML posts from seriously messing up the forum layout (a simple example from long ago, which admittedly probably/maybe doesn't work anymore these days, are unclosed tags, resulting in mismatched tags in the actual forum layout and hence boxes going too far, etc.). And even if all that was very unlikely (and I'm not so sure just how unlikely it is), still, why even risk it at all? Can you name any legitimate (read: other than playing silly little games with the board) use? |

No, I can't. I just thought it would be fun on certain parts of the board. After reading the above statements, I understand that getting into all those messy problems, is not worth anyones time and effort, and certainly not for a bit of fun.
