Viruses effects

Hi guys

Just spotted that under ClassicWB (lite edition) i executed some infected exes

To be precise, one infected with Ebola and one infected with CCCP

This because i made the mistake (my fault) to launch the exes without scanning those first with VirusZ

So, question is mandatory ...... which are the effects of these two viruses ?

I infected the "system" in some general way ?

It seems to me that ClassicWB works as expected

So i am not sure of possible damage to the system

Thanks, chip

Thanks thomas, i read it carefully

Anyway i must still understand one thing

I worried about my system ..... can it be "infected" ?

For "infected" i mean that if i execute an Amiga exe under ClassicWB, this exe is modified by CCCP or Ebola (which i previously launched)

If i understood well, CCCP should be floppy disk bootblock only virus, but Ebola is not

Please note that both of these viruses are still DETECTABLE under my ClassicWB with VirusZ

Thanks again for any help

Some infections are devastating to the point of destroying all files and maybe replacing them with text files with a message inside.

This morning while I was testing some old OS3 software on AROS One 68k, I noticed strange errors in system startup as if I had modified something in Startup, then thanks to some strange comments on the files I suspected an infection.

Connected the Hardfile of AROS One 68k on AfA One and made a file scan with Virus Checker II I found that all EXE including libraries, fonts etc.. were "all" infected by the Virus Hitch-Hiker 4.11

Fortunately the files were "curable" and after cleaning them all up AROS One worked fine again.

Of course I had a backup of the system even if it was older, having one or two backups is the best cure.

I attach screenshot with some of the infected files !

Format the floppy disk or use a virus program to remove it. First you need a clean system (no virus in memory and boot from a clean floppy write protected or hd).

What sort of suggestion is this daxb, are you crazy? What if it's an original / rare game.

Better

Download / install / use VirusZ.

Is that a running antivirus like you'd get on windows, that runs at start up? How do I get the latest definitions? If I use xcopy do I need the latest version and if so when was that built? I've got one from 1993.

I think you can put it in startup, then it will remain resident and for example scan any new disks you insert.

As for DATs, you have to remember that there aren't really that many new Amiga viruses after 1997 or so.

...but I think you can get some updated DATs from here: https://www.vht-dk.dk/amiga/amiga.htm

I wouldn't be using Xcopy to clean viruses.

How dangerous is the EBOLA virus ?

i did read this .. https://www.vht-dk.dk/amiga/desc/txt/ebola.htm

But i am still wondering how dangerous is it really ? ( it only affects files, right ? )
Does VirusZ find it 100 % and why wasted people energy to make Viruses for our lovley Amigas ?
