Copying from network gives grey screen
Hello everybody.
I have an A1200 (PC PSU), Blizzard IV 030/50 882, 64MB RAM, and a Delock CF/SD to IDE with a SanDisk 16GB SD. I run WB3.1 with 3.1 ROMs and MapRom enabled. For networking, I have an Easynet WI-FI PCMCIA card, with the reset script in my Startup-Sequence. The system is very steady on gaming and productivity. I have two shared directories from my Raspberry and Windows PC. The problem is that my miggy crashes with a grey screen and stays there, or reboots infinitely when I copy files between the Amiga and the shared directories. I tried this with DOpus or from WB. I also copied them to RAM to exclude a possible HDD problem. The weird thing is that this is happening when I just opend the shared dir, or at the beginning of the copy or in the middle. It's completely random. Sometimes, I'm copying for days without any issue. I'm confused. Thanks in advance. |

Need to know what software you’re using to mount the remote directories.

AmiTCP and SMB-Handler.
I made me some icons to mount them. Code:
/* net drive handler */ Handler = L:SMB-Handler Stacksize = 40000 Priority = 10 GlobVec = -1 Mount = 1 Startup = "C=\\RASPBERRYPI:192.168.1.60\PISHARE MH=localhost:127.0.0.1 W=UMBRELLA U=guest P=¥ DN=PISHARE" |

As much as I like smb-handler for its elegant AmigaOS style of presenting network shares as filesystems, it is fairly old - Windows 98 era, I think? And it’s always been sort of buggy. So it could be a latent bug in the software conflicting with something else in your system’s software, or an incompatibility with the newer SMB servers. Give smbfs a try as a first bit of troubleshooting?

It was working fine for years.
I disabled all fancy stuff from SS/US and WBStartup before posting here. I'm troubleshooting for months now. SMBFS? This one? https://github.com/obarthel/amiga-smbfs |

You could also try running Enforcer or an equivalent in the background to see if it catches any of your network software doing something illegal.

My self-built version is dated May 2021 and is very stable. Might be worth a try? I've uploaded it to the zone. |

Did it work? Someone might need to prod Olaf into making a new release.

Dunno yet.
I re-installed the old easynet/prism2 and seems steady since Monday. Will keep it till the end of the week if nothing crashes. But I will check the new one for sure. |

Ok I'm back.
Worked well for 12 days, I even copied all my WB directory to the PC. Every day, I was copying with no problems at all for many hours. Moments ago, it crashed while I was downloading a file from a friend's FTP. It does the same from everywhere, so it's not an SMB issue. I think the machine is possessed, or maybe the card is dying. |

Have you tried the latest prism2.device AND WirelessManager from Aminet? I'm not aware of any stability issues with older releases, but it may be worth a try.

Yes I did, this is what I had.
Now works OK again. What I did, I just copied my backup. The funny thing is that it was the same as I didn't update anything. |

So just for the record.
Did happen again today, multiple times. I brought the same file from the backup, net stuff only with the same results. The fix is to just copy the whole same workbench from backup. The funny thing is that there is not even a single file updated, it's the same exact copy and works. I quit, I will just re-copy every time this happens. Thanks everyone. |

is this an SMBv2/3 problem? SMBFS and the likes only support SMBv1 and a lot of systems like winblows dumped/disabled SMBv1 support due to security issues so we are out of luck in that regard afaik? Personally i can only access my home NAS and none of my home computers from the amiga side of things.

Well, I was waiting some days to pass cause I have no time to use my Amiga.
I replaced the PSU. I had a PC one and replaced it with another. The Amiga was very stable, but I only tested her for a week. When I have spare time to test for days, I will be sure if it was a PSU problem. Fingers crossed. For the smb version: I can see just fine Mint, Pi, Win7-10 and usb sticks on my router from my Amiga. |

Bromigo! Having something similar happening with my setups. Have tried your SMBFS but this doesn’t work on my 040 BPPC + G-REX, RTL8029 and 060 BPPC + Mediator 1200TX+, RTL8039 setups. I get 80000004 guru errors with it I’m guessing. It’s not compiled for FPU?

If the windows machine is running Win10 (Don't have a win7 machine to check), it's just a matter of going to: control panel -> programs and features, and on the left choosing "Turn on/off windows features" Scroll down and you will see an option for SMBFS v1. Problem solved for our old machines... |

It's compiled with -m68020-60 (I think Olaf's version is too). I use Roadshow. Maybe it's a stack issue? How are you launching smbfs? Mine's in the Roadshow s:network-startup. |
