Amiga Forever joystick ?

Hello ,
as i had some spare time this week end i installed AF with knoppix and successfully made my PC boot directly with AF , i can go to internet , play whdload games , i even installed OS 3.9.

Just one thing wich is not good is my joystick (a competition pro usb) , it's not working.I'm actually just able to play whdload games with the keyboard emulated joystick.

Did someone could get a joystick working ?

Any help would be cool !!

Thanks !

To my knowledge, it runs everything via WinUAE. Have you checked the setting (press F12) and see if you have Joystick configured correctly. I see no reason why it would not work... I used my PS2 controller via USB adaptor without any problems on.

You may need to enable F12 in the options panel in later versions of Amiga Forever.

Hello , when you use AF with winuae in windows....ok.

But i installed the workbench with knoppix and it boot directly my PC and it's UAE wich is used then.

Just reinstalled everything with an xbox 360 controler and it doesn't work too , i think knoppix doesn't install the driver for the controler...

Well i won't break my head with that as i did it just for fun , unless someone know how to make the controler work and tell me.

Thanks.

@lolafg

I also have a competition pro USB joystick that I use with AF-knoppix.
For me it works. I only had to set 'joyport=joy1' (instead of 'joyport=kbd1') in the e-uae config file. You can find the config file in '/Amiga/e-uae/hd_boot.uaerc'.

Hello Mozzerfan and thank you for your help !

Is this config file to be found while launching Knoppix in my PC to boot AF or somewhere else ? I'm a bit lost as i'm not really good in linux....
Could you please explain step by step ?

Thanks in advance !!

Well, I'm a total linux noob myself, but this is how I did it:

1. In Workbench, type: <CTRL> <ALT> <BACKSPACE>. This brings you to the linux environment.
2. type <ENTER>. then type 'init 2 <ENTER>'
3. type 'setterm -inversescreen on <ENTER>'.
4. type 'e3 /Amiga/e-uae/hd_boot.uaerc <ENTER>'.
5. locate the following part: 'joyport=kbd1' and change it to 'joyport=joy1'.
6. type '<CTRL> + kx' to save your changes.
7. type 'init 5 <ENTER>'.

Remember: linux is case-sensitive ! Edit: And because of the weird colors, you can't see where the cursor is in e3. So be carefull when editing the config file.

Good luck !!!

I'm sorry, I made a mistake in step 2.

step 2 should be:

press <F2>. after pressing <f2> press <enter>. Then type 'init 2 <ENTER>'.

So to recap:
1. In Workbench, press: <CTRL>+<ALT>+<BACKSPACE>. This brings you to the linux environment.
2. press <F2>. press <ENTER>. at the command prompt, type 'init 2 <ENTER>'
3. type 'setterm -inversescreen on <ENTER>'.
4. type 'e3 /Amiga/e-uae/hd_boot.uaerc <ENTER>'.
5. locate the following part: 'joyport=kbd1' and change it to 'joyport=joy1'.
6. press '<CTRL> + k + x' to save your changes. '<CTRL> + k + q' quits e3 without saving your changes.
edit: to be more precise: hold down <CTRL> key. then press 'k'. then press 'x'.
7. type 'init 5 <ENTER>'.

Pressing '<CTRL>+<ALT>+<BACKSPACE>' should bring you to the linux environment and you should see the AF loading screen. Then when you press '<F2>' you get the command prompt.

I also did an install to hd, so that should not be the culprit.

edit2: I just checked, it should also work when booting from the AF-CD/DVD. Only step 4 won't work when booting from CD, because the name of the config file is different when booting from CD.
Note that '<ctrl>+<alt>+<backspace>' all should be pressed at the same time.

Hello ,
ok i've now the command prompt , it's already a good thing...

Just to be more precise , i don't boot from cdrom but from my hd .

When i instaled AF for the first time with knoppix i had 2 choices so i choosed the first choice wich seems to copy the cdrom to hd....

And of course step 4 doesn't work and i have to know now where is the uaerc file....

Is there a command to see all files in the hd ?

When booting from HD, the filename in step 4 is correct.
BUT, as I said earlier, linux is case-sensitive. Be sure to type step 4 exactly as I mentioned in step 4.

I am resuming this relatively old thread because I have the same issue.

I followed the installation instructions and modified the hd_boot.uaerc as indicated.
I removed the 'joyport=kbd1' and changed it to 'joyport=joy0'.
The USB joystick did not work. I tried to change 'joyport=joy1' but still the joystick does not work and the keyboard remains active.

Just wondering if someone was able to find an alternative solution.
