Karate Kid II on the Atari ST is the same, but different, to the Amiga version.

Audio is slightly different (obviously) but Atari ST version has fewer levels. Those fewer levels are replaced with a different background on level 2, and a slight palette change on level 3 (or is it 4?).

Also in-between text screens on the Atari ST have more text while the Amiga version just tells you the location you're fighting at.

The Amiga version is far superior, but thought I'd bring up this title because it hasn't been mentioned.

Funny! A friend of mine wrote his own CLI for the Amiga. And one of the features that I liked most about it was that it supported keyclicks.

Not to mention the bitcrushed but very meaty sounds. I always liked DD2 Amiga because it really felt like you were doing actual damage in that game. On the ST the punch and kick sounds are weird, more like gunshots.

One thing I hate about the ST and 8-Bit systems is the use of extremely limited sound chips to APPROXIMATE various sound effects, which hardly ever works.

Samples are the only way to go.

Not a huge difference, but, I always liked Frost Byte: The C64 had an intro tune, and the Atari ST had a sample play at the start of the game. I think the Amiga version just starts with no music.

picky find
Captain Dynamo, graphically very close to the miggy one, sound ok too;
absolutely better controls response, smoother

curiously, the ics crack seems based on a prolly preview version, due this message :

seems a ransomware thing, more than a protection

Nope, was on Amiga as well.

Protection was Copylock, and on some of these Codemasters games if you copied them and it failed the protection check, it would come up with that screen and give you a phone number to call which was x amount per minute, and it would give you a code so you could enter it and play the game, but obviously once you reset your machine, you would have to do it again.

Most Amiga crackers cracked the copylock so that screen never appeared, obviously ICS left it in probably to ridicule Codemasters, essentially cracking that code entry instead of the copylock.

don't know if already mentioned
Eye of Horus is another one that runs smootly on ST

EDIT
another one
Rockford (1988) Melbourne House
crappy on both machines, imo little better to play on ST
slight different (poor) gfx, brighter colors

I am surprised no one mentioned Ghosts 'n Goblins. The ST fanbois consider the ST port to be the more accurate version, but it's not (no surprise here ). The only redeeming feature is the stats counters located at the lower border, it makes their port more "computerish", so to speak.

Also, Jug (1988) (Microdeal) is better (slightly smoother, better drawn graphics) on the ST but I guess that very limited shooter is best forgotten and left alone, save for a handful of completists who play even the most obscure shmup on the miggy.

Atari people consider THIS GnG ST port to be more accurate than amiga?
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...Cepf1H-b4i7l3i

Are they completely blind.. It is one of the worst ports of the game... The way shooting is done alone... Feels more like arthur is a space ship there is absolutely nothing that is better in that conversion than the amiga one:

Fair enough but as I said, I consider the position of the stats counters better on the ST since it makes them more readable at a glance but of course the important aspects are animation, gfx etc.. All right, what about Gauntlet then ? ST folks consider Gauntlet I to be superior to Gauntlet II, which implies their version of Gauntlet I might be superior to Gauntlet II on the Amiga (except scrolling), all other things being equal. I know meynaf ported Gauntlet I but I suppose he didn't bother fixing the somehow jerky scrolling.

Ghost's'n'goblins on ST is awful. They tried to fix the lack of color by tune fining the graphics, but it doesn't work.

Ultima V (possibly IV also)
bit clearer gxf on ST, complete soundtrack, bit smoother

on Amiga the fifth chapter have a great but single tune iirc, different from ST and PC
similar to the Metallica 'One' intro

Funny you mention this - Ultima 3 on the Atari 8bit intro also sounds a lot like Metallica One.. That might just be the Ultimate tune in general then

I do agree U-V for some reason looked excellent on the ST, more so than other machines. 6 was a different story though..

The monochrome monitor on the ST was pretty impressive. Especially when using the SpectreGCR Macintosh emulator.
