Some time ago on a forum I made some Italian reviews, where you can see almost all the GUI of applications you mentioned.

@Pat the Cat with the arrival of the Vampire, the Amiga is now also (by far) the fastest classic Mac. If you run Fusion you can run all the best Mac software made for OS8.1 68k. ;-)

It was, I wrote "by far" as not only do you have CPU speed, but also speedy display modes so you can now actually run stuff like Photoshop in decent resolution + 24 bit color.

The link shows a photogenics version 3. Never know it existed. I saw Version 4 and 5 which were not very stable Version 2 also had a bug that would crash it every time.

For your A1200:

- Managing files -> DirectoryOpus 5
- Paint -> Brillance 2
- Burn CD -> MakeCD

Dopus 5 can be set up to work like Dopus 4, but it's a little annoying out of the box. If you don't like that, go for Dopus 4 instead.

I love that video... nice to see a side by side comparison of the speed difference on my emulations vs. the competitors.

I assume this is the latest version of Final Writer which is still in development?

Do you have a vague release date and potential cost? Also, aside from being to export PDF files, are any other new export formats planned?

Many thanks!

Sorry for the late reply. I wish I did hopefully within the next few months though. Yes, it is the new version. Currently other than updating the existing formats and adding PDF the biggest new features are truetype font support, updated spell checker and datatype usage.

It's a pity Final Writer lacks support for kerning, i.e.context-sensitive spacing adjustment between letters, otherwise FW is great. I currently run Final Writer 97 in emulation.

Oh wow--I had no idea Final Writer was being updated! Used to own that when my A4000 kicked the bucket back in the early 2000s.

Now that I'm back...

Are the updates to Final Writer for AROS only, or also 3.x?

Eventually AOS3.1, 4, MorphOS and AROS.

Seems to be an old thread, buut anyway:

Word processing:
- My choice was always Final Writer (97), somehow didn't feel at home with WordWorth or others. And got absolutely the best printing quality with Final Writer. Still do my word processing mostly on it on MorphOS.

Managing files:
- Directory Opus Magellan II 5.82, hands down, I'm still using it from my A2000/010/8MB to MorphOS setups daily. The best thought program ever written for Amiga IMHO.

Paint:
- For pixel by pixel painting, palette conversions and merging: PPaint 7.1c
- For 24bit image processing ArtEffect 4 (I still occasionally use FXPaint2, ImageFX, Photogenics, etc, but ArtEffect is the program I finally get the job done, and in the easiest way)
(I still use these even on MorphOS, although digital photo handling and other operations have moved to ShowCase, which comes with the OS, but removing backgrounds, fixing scanning artifacts, and some painting operations I still do on ArtEffect on these newer systems too)

DMSsing disks:
- DMS or DMSPro have been enough for me, I have them setted up in Directory Opus, so I don't have to remember shell arguments.

Burn CD:
- MakeCD has been my choice, very versatile program when you learn to use it. Did use it for a while on MorphOS too, but it's now been replaced by Jalapeno.
