I disagree with it in any area to be honest.
I don't expect it to be a popular opinion. |

Disagreeing with it is perfectly acceptable, and I am not so sure it is as unpopular an opinion as you imagine. It's usually when members won't tolerate it that problems start.

to s certain degree I agree with Dastardly
It is really frustrating when you read a thread all the way through and are about to comment on it only to find that its been closed still think I should be able to delete everything that I have created here, even if I had to ask a mods permission first. To a certain amount I see my writing (such as it is) as mine and EAB just holds it for me so other ppl may read it. I have not given EAB/RCK or anyone else permission to do as they wish with my posts or have I ? by writing in the forum are we giving permission for the forum owner to do as he/she wishes with our posts ? must read the rules again some time ..... |

I would bet my watch some would pay to have me remove some (most, all ?) of my posts in Toni's sections, whether I leave or not.

Just done a quick count for the last six months on all of EAB (excluding OT) and I can reveal that
- 14 threads have been locked (this excludes threads that have a 'natural time/usefulness limit' like Guess The Screenshot, and Toni's old WinUAE beta threads) - three of these were due to illegal links/requests, one was a news thread which I locked with a link to a separate, already-huge discussion and the other ten were split about 50/50 between being deliberately started by trolls looking to cause trouble, and others that ended up in flame wars for whatever reason (usually on more sensitive issues). - 12 threads have been deleted - four of these were at the specific request of the thread starter, another three were again due to legality/copyright issues, another four were just duplicate threads and just one was due to a thread started deliberately to provoke people. I really don't want to drag this off-topic but I thought it was worth putting out there. |

On Topic:
Last time someone deleted all his posts and damage the board threads, I setup the "X year edit" limit. This behaviour lead us to this thread: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=39709 It seems this problem will spawn every years |

I'm going to mass edit all my posts and put them in Greek!
In anycase iirc VBB forums 'hide' deleted posts if done by a member. A moderator/admin should be able to restore/undelete them? |

I think thats fair enough (2 yrs). When you have been on a while like you guys, you maybe forget what its like for newbies. The amount of info I got from old posts after searching on google (before I registered) has been invaluable, I couldnt have got started without the info from posts from years ago. They are hidden away from day to day browsing, so you forget about them, but they are a valuable resource and moves should be made to preserve some brilliant advice and solutions.

Please let's not forget that members usually don't just delete their posts because they feel like it... Anyway, 2 years sounds good to me aswell

Is the 2 years from the last edit, or from the creation of the post?
Also, would this apply to forums that I moderate, or will I still be able to edit posts in my forums that have gone past the 2 year barrier? |
