Amiga 4000-CR external battery?

My Amiga 4000-CR's lithium coin-style battery is dead. On the motherboard there is a few pins to connect an external battery. It's the same as what's on the Amiga 4000T motherboard.

Does anyone know how to actually hook up an external battery? What type of battery, wires needed, etc...

Thanks,
Darren

@Alexh: all A4000CR used soldered batteries. The user can replace it with a cell holder.

A4kCR uses the CR2335 3V/165mAh (non-rechargeable lithium cell battery). The diode to stop recharging is built-in on the 4k board.

I could have sworn mine has a CR2032 coin cell holder. Perhaps the previous owner installed it or perhaps I was mistaken

Anyhow A4000-CR external battery interface is for a T1AA/C

The original coin battery was indeed a BR/CR2335.

In short: a rechargeable 3.6V battery in a pack with wires for remote connection.

Thanks for the link. I googled the TIAA/C and actually not much comes up. Anywhere in the USA or Canada to buy one? I couldn't really find any place that sells them in North America.

Are they not commonly used anymore?

try you phone provider
at end of the day all you need is a rechargeable battery thats 3.6v and has right connectors on or may be you make the right connector yourself.

I did something similar for my A2000, basically 3 AA rechargeable battery's in series

It was labeled 3.6V.

so I bought it for $16.47, ripped off the two pin connector and put on a 4-pin connector, and put the red (+) wire and black (-) wire in the right places to line up with the pins on the Amiga 4000CR external battery header....

It appears to work. I turned off my machine for 4 hours with the external battery connected, (after setting the clock to the right time), and when I turned it on it had the correct time...

So I hope it is OK

Just remember you can't use lithium-ion battery packs on any Amiga circuit: those batteries can't use the recharge circuit from the Amiga and might explode/die very fast.

Only NiCd & nickel-metal-hydride batteries can be used on this circuit.

It's a NiCad battery pack so I hope it will be OK. It's also not rechargeable, which I think is the correct type.

I will have to check over the next days to see if it's accurately holding time and not slowly losing seconds, though.

NiCd batteries are by definition rechargeable. I've successfully used those cordless battery packs you found, they're cheap and cheerful.

Ok. Yes it's been a couple days now and the computer is holding the time properly. I just need to get a proper little plastic connector for the wires. Right now they are hooked up directly to the pins on the motherboard.

But yes, for less than 20 bucks I have a proper battery now.

I will get another one for my Amiga 4000T. It was really annoying to see January 1978 all the time and the file dates and times messed up.
