The ultimate cd32 Joystick...
Well, my cd32 joypad broke on me (no suprise there!), so I decided to take it apart to fix it. Then it struck me, why just fix a problem when it'll keep happening over and over again? So I decided to completely rebuild the cd32 pad into a nice arcade style joystick.
I bought a replacement joystick at a local spare parts store for about $12 (never liked gamepads anyways). It's manufactured by Happ. Right now, I have to order the push buttons and build a box, so this is a work in progress. I'll try to keep things updated here though. The pictures are of the cable, the circuit board, and the joystick. |

Good luck with this.
I would like to make the same with a Sega 6 button pad or something! I mean, hacking a SEGA pad with a CD32 board or something. |

Sounds difficult, Akira... Different shape, not a lot of room.
You'd probably need to custom design a PCB that was the same shape/layout as the Sega, but the same circuit as the CD32... |

Don't know... if you're into that sort of thing, maybe not hard.
But definitely harder than just putting the old PCB in a new (big) box which is what I'm planning to do... sacrifice a couple of USB pads, & probably build a couple CD32 controller circuits from AmiNet schematics, & put in this box: Last edited by Adeptus; 15 June 2004 at 03:36. |

And how about making an USB controller adapter for Amiga? Someone was making one I think, or something.

I was asking how hard this would be a while ago... I found (somewhere) a HID-compliant USB host chip, and was suggesting a hub-style box for inputs, with cables going out to Amiga joystick/mouse & keyboard ports.
I think it's beyond my abilities personally, but might look into it more someday... after everything else... There are general-purpose USB cards for big-box Amigas, & I think an A1200 trapdoor one? |

I think they are PCI/Zorro, to be used with for example, mediator boards.
Someone should start producing REAL, complete, compatible amigas for reasonable prices soon! |

I think it would be much easier getting one of these working on the keyboard port than on the mouse port.

There is a Clockport USB interface, but that was not my idea, since you would have to write drivers or other shit to support it in legacy games.
Somebody made a PSX adapter, I;d like to try that. |

If you want a PSX connector cheap you can get the PSX to Megadrive/Genesis convertor from LikSang. Now this will not work directly with the Amiga. You will need to swap some lines on the cable I think. There was a thread about this on the forum at Amiga.org and the guy had a PSX joypad up and running after some tinkering with it.
Perhaps a little OFB but check it out anyway, http://www.gamesx.com/controldata/usbsatpad/ |

ooh, impressive!
Unfortunately CD32 pads are more complicated (in number of components anyway) than USB (2 chips, several resistors & capacitors) |

I found this info somewhere........does anyof it save you even making a joypad ?????
[---- Controllers ----------------------------------------------------------] Q: What's the Competition Pro joypad like? A: It's completely compatible with the C= CD32 joypad. Some good things said about it are that it's shaped like a Megadrive joypad, the diagonals are easier to get to, it feels less delicate, it has turbo and auto fires, and it has a slow motion button. Some bad things said about it are that it's shaped like a Megadrive joypad and the diagonals are more difficult to get to. Obviously a bit subjective. Q: Is it possible to plug other types of controller into the controller port? A: Yes, but you'll lose access to most CD32 joypad buttons. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Dunno if its any use at all but its interesting ???? I used a competition pro joystick on the Amiga......did they make a joypad or am i totally on the wrong track ???? |

Yes, Competition Pro make a pad for CD32 (the only 3rd party one I know of - also known as Honey Bee).
They have them on www.liksang.com but were out of stock last time I checked. The second Q just means you can plug a standard Amiga stick in, but you only get the one button function, not 7 like the CD32. You can also use some Sega pads (SMS only?) and get 2-3 buttons. |

Does anyone have a picture of a logo for the CD32? I'm looking for something with a black background so I can make a sticker for the joystick. Something that says Amiga CD32.
I've found a few pictures with a google image search, but nothing beyond the simple logo (which I will go with if nothing else turns up). I was thinking of using the boot screen picture, but I don't know if I could get it sized right (the sticker will be roughly diamond shaped), plus the colors seem a bit off (mainly red). I was wondering if anyone on here had something that maybe they would like to contribute? |

I've only seen the simple "AMIGA CD³²" on black (like on the CD cases etc)
