Aminet completeness

I was wondering...
does Aminet include all the contents available (a lot of Gigabytes) on the many Amiga CDS on EAB server (and elsewhere)?
CD collections
BBS collections
GOLDFISH CDs
commercial PD/Free/Shareware collections
magazine CDs
etc.?

If not, there would be a lot of updating work to do...

I realize that perhaps I was misunderstood.
The 'purpose' of this thread is not (only) finding material not present in Aminet.
It's about updating it with all the available material (PD/Free/Shareware).

Aminet hosts legal software put there by the respective autors. I don't think that any kind of "abandonware" with unknown legality is accepted there.

At least you should talk to the admins before you start random mass-uploads.

Hmmm, I didn't consider that.
So any files must be approved by the authors... it makes sense.
Does Aminet host Shareware (not registered versions, of course) too? Or only PD/Freeware?

Of course .
I'm wondering if they would be interested/open to contributions...

I'm one of the Aminet admins.

Aminet hosts anything that is licensed to be hosted on Aminet. That includes:
  • software uploaded by its authors (uploading to Aminet equals granting us a license, obviously)
  • software that is freely redistributable (i.e. the copyright notice states that it is okay to redistribute the file in question)
  • software from other reputable sources that host freely distributable software - like Fish disks, or other FTP archives.

If you are sure a title can be freely distributed, you can upload it to Aminet.

Note that "freely distributable" is not the same as "available for download somewhere". Sites like Back2Roots or amigafuture.de host lots of free and legal downloads that can not be redistributed - they're licensed for free download from these sites, and nothing else.

Absolutely. I've been uploading older stuff ocassionally (list of uploads) - but it's a tiresome process, given the amount of stuff missing from Aminet (especially older freeware games) and my lack of time.
