Space Hulk Disk #3 w gotek

Hi,

I have a need to get creeped out, and that means I have to play Space Hulk...

I got the Gotek floppy emulator, all games work fine but Space Hulk. When asked "Please insert Disk #3" and I switch to it nothing happens.

Anyone had this problem or know how to solve it?

I just tried it for myself and as you say it doesn't detect a disk swap at all. I am using the Fairlight crack but will try another version to see if it makes a difference.

Edit: I tried the Anthrox crack and it's just the same unfortunately.

...I also tried Fairlight and some others. I also tried on floppy a while ago, but I never got it working. I think it recognised disk #3 but then hung.

A500 w. 1mb
Switchable rom too, but I am not sure how to use it. 1.3 rom am using most likely. When I tried on floppy that A500 was vanilla.

Does the switchable rom have a switch? If not, you usually hold down the reset keys for around 3 seconds or more.

The 1.3 rom screen is white with a blue hand holding a disk and the 2.0 rom is purple and has an anim of a disk loading into a floppy drive.

I am using 1.3 rom, but I do not know if it matters in this case.

Which will work with what?? And is it not weird that there is only 1 disk #2 image?

I have tried various disk 3 images and none worked with the Gotek. They do work ok with WinUAE though so the problem lies with the Gotek firmware.

Ah, too bad. Thanks. I wonder if it would be the same thing with a floppy drive.

I'm sure a proper floppy drive would load the game fine. There is a known issue with the cortex firmware and certain games not recognising disk swaps. Soccer Kid and Goal are 2 others that come to mind. Try them for yourself and you will see.

@Vaninna, I used:

Space Hulk (1993)(Electronic Arts)(Disk 1 of 3).zip
Space Hulk (1993)(Electronic Arts)(Disk 2 of 3)[cr FLT].zip
Space Hulk (1993)(Electronic Arts)(Disk 3 of 3).zip

In WinUAE default A500 1.2. No problems.

Ok, that sounds promising at least. I tried the demo and that also worked fine. I need to to try those disks later.

I've tried numerous combinations of those disks but none worked. As matter of fact, none worked on floppy either, but I assumed that that was due to non expanded memory (only 512k).

How much memory do you have?

Have you thought about upgrading the firmware to HXC?

I have 2 A500:
one "vanilla" i.e. floppy drive and only 512k
and one with switchable rom 1.3 and 2.0, 1 mb ram, and a gotek drive.

I'm not familiar with HXC firmware, I do not even know what firmware I have now. :/

The standard Gotek uses Cortex firmware. It should tell you when you boot from the selector adf.

The HXC firmware is essentially an upgrade for the Gotek and many have said that it has better disk swap detection.

yup, it worked. After I put in disk 3 it loaded for a few seconds then asked me to put back disk 1 and game loaded up

Edit: used a version cracked by Fairlight. Already tried it in my Gotek. So it looks like the Gotek has issues with disk swapping on a few games. However, the problem is with very few games I think, so it does not render the Gotek with the standard Cortex firmware useless in any way. btw, Space Hulk seemed kinda cool. never tried it before. Graphics was pretty bad though so was very hard to see what was going on. Amiga was never made for 3D games so most of these games looks very blocky or runs very slow. This game runs smooth in a very small window with kinda blocky 3D graphics.

Also, it sounded like it tried to access my second disk drive. So it probably supports two disk drives. I only tried DF0 for testing purposes. Maybe using an external Gotek DF1 in addition to the DF0 one can get around this problem. I heard that with soccer kid it works if you also have a DF1 Gotek to put the second disk in when the game asks for it. I could test by mounting one of my other Gotek drives in my DF1 disk drive chassi.
