Ooh, totally forgot I was supposed to make a video of this... I've no video capture hardware so it'll be a camera + tripod job unfortunately, but I can still do it if people wanted?
As for the error, that's very strange - have you changed anything else? RAM config or settings, partition it's running from, some sort of patch? I know it seems very unlikely but there's always a chance some funky instruction on the Mac side is having problems with something buggy on the Amiga side, especially if it's something that also uses the MMU. Bear in mind that the Mac code actually runs on the Amiga's CPU, not in a closed sandbox the way most emulators do. |

I really can't think of anything which has been changed. The game was booting perfectly until it randomly crashed and now it doesn't load. I figured that a reinstall would do the trick but oddly it doesn't, not even going back the the last known working images I gave to you. Weird.
So as you say, it must be something on the Amiga side but I can't think what! |

Any idea what a CHK error is?

Hmmm, I don't I'm afraid... It would make be think of a checksum error, but going back to a known good HDF should eliminate that possibility.

I think my best best is to redownload the original hardfiles, start from scratch and install a fresh civ II.sit to it and see what happens.

Rob, what have you got in your startup-sequence wrt prepareemul, mufastzero, movevbr and mumove4k?
I think I must've added something to my startup sequence which is causing civ to hang on loading. |

Quick update on this civ ii problem in case anyone's interested.
I seem to have solved the problem by fixing some errors on my system partition with PFSDoctor. The CHK error has not come back since. Last edited by trixster; 23 October 2016 at 15:15. |

Here's a quick video of Shapeshifter running The Settlers II, Civ II, Dark Forces, Prince of Persia and Doom 2.

3 year necro.
The Civ 2 crashing issue had returned when i loaded Shapeshifter yesterday for a quick play for the first time in a long time, but i think i've finally sussed it. It looks like Civ 2 checks the time and date on your system when it first boots. If your battery is dead (like on my A1200) and the clock reads something like 1978 then Civ2 will crash on boot. But if you set the time manually before starting Shapeshifter, or set the time automatically by using something like NTPSync when you connect to the internet, the game will load ok. It's only taken 3 years to work that one out |

I have been getting into Mac emulation on WinUAE and came across this issue with CivII. Weirdly the date was updated via WinUAE but nothing was working, but resetting the date to 1997 and seems to have done the trick so thanks for this! Perhaps some Y2K or similar date issue?

Similar thing happens with Escape Velocity Nova.
Basically to register you need to set the date to the 1st August 2009. Afterwards you can change back to the current date. |

Tired that already; I set it to 01-Jan-1997.
What's weird is that the same .HFV files in "Basilisk II" work fine and the game starts: I also played around with clock settings here: So we know it works on a real Amiga, it also works on "Basilisk II"... it just doesn't seem to via WinUAE... Last edited by DamienD; 28 March 2021 at 13:31. |

If anyone wants to see if they can work this out; here is the setup:
https://mega.nz/file/g7wzWSqb#5ctG9W...TBs0nW8yWmigOYI removed the game from auto-starting. Open "CivilizationII" and then double-click "Civilization II" to start. |

I guess the question is; has anyone had this game running successfully via WinUAE without getting the "CHK error"?
