My only options are to "Restore Windows back to Factory Default" or "Restore Windows and retain User Data".

I have 2 x partitions; C: and D: with over 350GB of data. I don't have a backup of everything...

I'm now building a bootable Windows PE USB stick so that I can at least copy all data off before reinstalling everything.

Will be a few days work

It will create a new profile for you, but then you can copy your old profile stuff into place. While using the "retain user data" option too, you will not lose all your installed apps from program files etc, unless it has been corrupted. You will have minimal stuff to fix or reinstall. I've used this option myself a long time ago.

But you should make a full backup of all data first for sure. A bootdisk or bootcd will let you copy everything from your drives to an external drive. I usally have a 1tb drive kicking about for backups and work or this kind of thing.

Good luck.

I'm going to manually copy everything off first using a Windows Bootable USB stick to access the hard drive / partitions.

I have 6 x 3TB external hard drives here so no problem there

I'm also thinking it may just be the MBR that's become corrupt so will try to fix that first after the data copy.

I've updated my Quake [AmigaCD] .HDF to include the 2 x official Mission Packs; "Hipnotic" and "Rogue"

So please just do the following:
  • Delete the configuration file "C:\WinUAE\Configurations\Quake [AmigaCD].uae".
  • Delete the <gamedir> "C:\WinUAE\Games\Quake AmigaCD".
  • Download / extract the following archive into "C:\WinUAE".

Not sure if you know, the Hipnotic and Rogue mission packs are actually called Dissolution Of Eternity and Scourge Of Armagon. Why they get installed into folders with those names is anyones guess.

Ok, well it's no problem to rename but the length of text is way too long for filenames...

You also run these with the switches "Quake -game Hipnotic" and "Quake -game Rogue".

This is so Quake looks in those folders for a .pak file. The folder could be called Timbuktoo if you wanted, the command would be Quake -game Timbuktoo instead. It might be, the actual titles are too long and we are only just coming out of the DOS era where folder names were kept to 8 characters max, maybe they just plucked two short words out of their asses here.

Anyway, you're right, the folder names are correct. I have Quake and those two packs installed on my PC now. And they are titled Hipnotic and Rogue, but don't ask me why as thats not what their true names are. I don't even know if the words Hipnotic or Rogue have any relation to the addons at all. I think the only thing you should update is maybe the config name that shows in WinUAE. Someone else with a bit more historical knowledge about where the daft folder names came from might be able to shed more light on it, its not something i ever cared about, so long as it loads and works, but i did think you'd want to call the addons by their true titles.

The folders were named like that to represent the devs of said title:

Scourge of Armagon is developed by Hipnotic Software.
Dissolution of Eternity is developed by Rogue Entertainment.

Also. not sure if you know. I get no music tracks playing in the game.

I might, currently it's just named "Quake & Mission Packs [AmigaCD]".

Is that a statement to me?

CD audio tracks work fine here; you need to start with the "xxx_CDAudio" icons though.

Alpha has just released a trainer for King's Valley

So please just do the following:
  • Delete the <gamedir> "C:\WinUAE\Games\King's Valley".
  • Download / extract this archive into "C:\WinUAE".

The same is true with "Quake" in the "QUAKE" folder

The icon "Quake" is the game without CD Audio.

The icon "q-cdaudio" is the game with CD Audio; I added this extra icon and put the required CD-ROM details into the command line.

Decided to add another mission pack: Abyss of Pandemonium - The Final Mission

Renamed the icon to make it easier to know what it's for:
Finally, added a "Quake_Cheats_LevelCodes_NightmareDifficulty.txt" file.

So please just download / extract this archive into "C:\WinUAE".

Weird error - on the later SWoS games I'm getting really odd joystick drift. On SWoS 96/97 it's fine. Any ideas?

If you need a hand getting your laptop back working then let me know
