Wanted Someone to do a A4000 Sound Repair?

Is there anybody near me that is capable of and willing to carry out a repair on a 4000D sound fault?

Battery has previously leaked (prior to my purchase - bluddy Fleabayer saw me coming) the damage doesn't seem too bad but sound is crackly and very very low

Well I know how to do standard soldering - time to learn how to do surface mounted stuff

I wouldn't do it myself if I were you. I'd pick up the yellow pages and see if there are any TV repair places still alive in your area (most have died off as TV's move to a disposable commodity).

Most of them are skill surface mount solderers.

If you decide to buy a soldering iron, get a very narrow tip one. Temperature controlled.
Get a magnifying glass on a movable stand with built in light.
Get some decent ultra thin low temperature solder.
Learn how to use solder braid (wick) to remove solder.
Learn how to use flux pens and fibreglass pens to prepare your area for soldering (desoldering).
Learn how to hold 3+ things at once (soldering iron, solder, items being soldered).
Do not be afraid to hold the soldering iron on for "longer". The number of people I notice who do not leave the iron on long enough. The solder must be liquid for a reasonable time to soak into the cracks etc.
Practice, practice, practice on things which dont matter.

I can't leave my poor old 4000D in the state it's in

Don't worry - I intend to practice on some old hardware first before attempting with the Amiga

AW, Can you recommend them personally? I sense an air of doom...

Dave, it's worth dropping Anthony (the NZ guy) a mail as he's most reasonable on charges. Once I've backed up all my floppies, I'll be sending two 4000 motherboards to him for repair. Postage isn't actually too bad, unbelievably!

I'd already seen those pictures. Thank God my isn't like that.

I've got slight damage around the area where the battery was. The output end (as in your pictures) looks ok. Got to get a magnifying glass on it yet to have a proper look

even with a magnifying glas you can easily overlook microscopically broken traces

Hi! Right now I have them working on one of my blizzard cards for the
Amiga 1200. Right now their communications have been really good.

I've just put my 4000D together after spending a lot of Saturday unsoldering and soldering all the 22µF electrolytic capacitors

What a difference to the sound

I can at long last hear the sound undistorted and without having the monitor on full blast (to hear a whisper!!!!)

I also gave the board a good clean up and fitted one of the rechargeable lithium button cells at the same time

I'm a happy Amigan now

I tried with my poxy camera to take some pictures of the before with the intention of putting up some afters as well

Trouble was the before were blurred and I was too excited after to try it that I forgot

I'll be taking it to bits again this weekend to move my Zorro boards around - I'll take some after shots then - no laughing when you see them though

theres no such thing as a bad Hack only a Better Hack.. (unless you log into Amiga.org.... some ass nasty mods in there, but still i respect them.... for the most part)

I do share your pain with the digital cameras, but my m8y Sarek hooked me up with a fine Fuji Fine Pix 5M nice hires hardware pron that leaves nothing to the imagination.
