Floppy Drive on A500+ wont power up

Rescued a A500+ from the local dump today, but it has a problem.
The floppy drive is recognised, but it doesnt power up. No ticking, no light on the Keyboard LED.

Device DF0 is present in SysInfo, and the info from it meets all the correct criteria. Nothing wrong with the drive itself either, Ive tested it on my other A500+ board (which is exactly the same Rev 8A) and its fine, drive, IDE Cable and Power cable all work fine.

Equally, when an external drive is attached it doesnt power up either and isnt even recognised.

What am I looking at? A faulty chip on the motherboard? Only thing that I noticed is the big barrel shaped blue battery at the inner corner of the motherboard has flaked a lot of white dust off it. Could this be the reason?

...

Firmly (but not too firmly) press all the major chips in. Could be the Gary chip (Blitter) is buggered which is part of the disk control system.

Could also be Paula, which controls sound and the floppy port.

It did indeed turn out to be a CIA chip problem - namely with the Even one. Ive swapped them with the ones from my unupgradable A500 board and now it works fine

Ive seen this happen to many a500's and a2000/a1500's!

Many years ago a m8te of mine got given two a1500's that were quite loaded with extra's and they both had the same fault with the disk drives and printer ports not working!

Soon as we swapped over the cia chips they worked perfect again

im glad it worked for you m8

To keep this A-500+ alive you should desolder the fucking battery !
Otherwise the acid will one day kill the board like it once happened to an A-500+ of mine Then it's a hell of work to rejoin the broken traces on the board !
