Between a red power light A500 and a green power light A500 ?

Ones with a red power light tend to be older, so they will have an earlier revision motherboard and usually Kickstart 1.2 instead of 1.3 (unless upgraded at some point). In normal use there are no major differences between any of the revisions, but later ones will tend to be easier to upgrade. Also the correlation with the red LED and a particular motherboard revision is not absolute; Commodore used all sorts of parts in various combinations over the years.

Usually pre-ECS chipset (512KB CHIP max) - as AJK wrote - there is no 100% sureness on this as Commodore was inconsistent on HW.

There is also a chance that an A500 with a red power LED will have the old keyboard without a membrane which has a very good mechanical feel IMO (and a C= key instead of the left Amiga key). AFAIK none of the green LED versions have this keyboard.

True, the NMB keyboard was only made in the red power led era. If it is original, the case will have a molded C= logo and the motherboard inside will be rev3.

I have a red power led A500, but it has its warranty seal still intact and I don't intend on breaking it just to check...

Where on the case the molded C= logo should be? I'm curious now

EDIT: Looks like it should be in place of the normal C= badge... I have a sticker, so no awesome membrane keyboard for me then

You can easily feel the difference in the keyboard (it's very "clicky"), or if not, you can remove one keycap to see what is underneath.

A dead giveaway is the C= key on the left side of the space bar. A bit more difficult to see is the brass rivet between del and help.

Unless you have one of the first A500s, you will not have the NMB keyboard. :-)

Well , it's a bit of a bodge between what I had lying around to get a 500 working to test one bit of software , which does work , so I'm happy .
Got another unknown A500 here as well I'll try that as well , cheers !

Mine first Amiga 500 had red power led, mainboard 8A (used in 500plus) and long Commodore badge - I bought it around time when A1200 was released and modified to A500+.
