Finding ZIP RAM for Amiga 3000

I know they are getting hard to find, but hoping someone can point me in the right direction. My 3000 has a mishmash of manufacturers at 8mb, fortunately all 1mbit x 4 80ns. I would like to have it maxed out, replacing all with same brand if possible...

Have you considered trying one of the SIMM <-----> ZIP adapter boards that have been made for the Amiga 3000D?

I wouldn't mind it, but I have not seen any available for sale outside of PCBWay...

Long time Amibayer Marmes made a batch a couple of years ago, selling them on Amibay, I checked with him fairly recently, but unfortunately no new batches were planned. I guess its a small niche market.
Maybe if enough people declared interest in a new batch ;-)

Good luck. I managed to find some NOS a few years ago but they weren't cheap or easy to find. Try googling the part number and see who claims to stock them.

Try this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/224229802596
https://www.ebay.com/itm/222424820060

They have them on stock, a little bit pricey though...

I guess it will be an ongoing process Anything I'm coming up with is Aliexpress specials, and I'm not touching those. Oh well, it's a short list to make my 3000 perfect - need maxed out ZIP RAM, Buster 11, better power supply, correct keyboard and mouse.

Would these be compatible?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264953838755
I bought them for my SupraRam 500XP but my board is faulty. I was gonna get it repaired but I might move the chips on. Or see if that seller can supply you with some.

This is probably the easiest way (I did eBay from a couple places also). UTSource. These have worked great.

I did try mixing page and column because I didn't pay attention when ordering 2 different sets off eBay. There are some sources that say you can mix them, if you put them in a certain order, I don't recall. But it made my system SUPER unstable. This source was cheaper than GGLabs but I've never had any trouble.

Utsource

Part Number Package Quantity Price(USD) Amount(USD)
TC514402AZ-60(used) ZIP-20 26 US $2.17 US $56.42
Shipping Cost US $7.98
Bank Charges US $0.00
Other fee US $0.00

Hmm, this is straight out of China and same model as a lot of the Aliexpress stuff, but I'm going to give it a try

Be careful about checking these parts thoroughly as they might be rebadged.

A year and a half ago, I received 20x TC514402AZ-60 from utsource, but didn't get around to checking them until a friend recently mentioned that he tried and several of the parts plain don't work at all. With IPA and a cotton swap, he discovered the parts had been sanded down, painted, and rebadged. When I tried the same cotton swab test, I found that mine were also rebadged. Too late for me to return them. utsource is a good company. I've bought several other items from them in the past. I think it's just that their supplier for the ZIP RAM is shady.

Got mine in today, and took one out. When using IPA and cotton swab, I was able to rub off the lettering after a bit of time, and the cotton swabs had a lot of black on them. When I did the same thing to the back of the chip, the swabs stayed black. I take it mine rebadged as well?

14400 are page mode, 14402 are static column. You can only mix them if you have page mode in the first slot (front right, I think). Only put static column RAM in that spot if you have ALL static column RAM, or the system will be very unstable. i.e. the system configures all the memory based on the first ZIP only. Static column mode will get you a small boost in performance.

I wouldn't trust repainted parts, but if you can get the paint off and see what it REALLY is, then maybe. Sometimes they paint over the same parts just to make them uniform...

Unfortunately looks like the middle is just shaved off below the paint. Definitely not trusting them. I knew I should've listened to my internal voice, never order from China...

Don't use those ZIP-SIMM adapters. Your ZIP sockets are toast afterwards.

Talking from personal experience?
(On paper it sounds like a good idea..)

It should be clear to the naked eye that putting relatively thick round pins into spring sockets will not end well for the socket. I bought one of those SIMM adapters years ago, but never put it in, for exactly that reason.
