A4000 with 3.2 ROMs

Hi all, received my 3.2 Disc and ROMs today from Amigastore.eu (eventually!) tried them in my A4000 but I get no boot. Anyone else had any issues or have I received some dead ROMs?

Tried to reseat them 5 or 6 times, checked hi/lo were correct way around. Put in my old ones and all is well again.

Tried with all drives connected/removed, currently using an Apollo 4060 CPU card.

Did you try to start the machine with a floppy drive connected to it ?

Show us your ROMs!

I did, both the standard drive and Gotek. Neither had any activity.

Try cleaning the pins by gently moving the ROMs sideways across a piece of paper.

If that doesn’t help, you may have received dead ROMs, which is not uncommon.

When I bought 3.1 roms some years ago, they didn't work - turned out, they were labelled the wrong way round, so swapping them did the trick.

Yeah though that so tried them still nothing. Luckily I did order a "spare" set from Retro Passion a couple of weeks back that should be here shortly anyway.

Tried cleaning the contact up a bit, still no. Plopped old ones back in again and guess I'll wait till the others turn up.

Wasn't there something about OS3.2 showing a black screen when there are no bootable devices? Try pressing 'Help'.

I have OS3.2 running on my A4000 but I burnt my own EPROMs.

Yeah I wish I ordered the stuff to burn my own (did look at the ones from GGLabs) but wasn't really sure what I needed.

This is what I was thinking of. I would double check the floppy drives again.

Quote:
4.16 * When I boot my Amiga, it stops at a black screen.
What is going on?

If you booted your Amiga with no drives at all or none gets detected, a
black screen will be shown signaling that your system is inoperable.

Just by adding any compatible disk drive (even a floppy one) and
rebooting, the Amiga will resume the boot process as usual.

So if you are performing some motherboard diagnostics without any drive
you may prefer to keep the Help keyboard key depressed or hold both
mouse buttons to access the Early Startup Control Menu (bootmenu).

Hmm; odd! I installed my A4000's 3.2 ROMs a few days ago without issue--but I'm using an A3660 (v1.1); not an Apollo 4060.

It's doubtful that the 3.2 ROMs have created an issue with the Apollo 4060--if anything, they should have eliminated more potential issues/bugs.

FWIW, I have heard that the GVP 4060 can apparently(?) fail to work with certain A4000s--no idea what exactly the issue there is, but EAB user RMK noted that many years ago.

As an interesting piece of trivia, some early A4000s had the wrong U104 crystal installed--28 MHz instead of 50 MHz:

Well, just to update. Received new ROMs today from RetroPassion. Plopped them in and working perfectly.

Guess a dead ROM from AMIGAstore.eu

Now to get the thing re-capped.

Wonder if they accidentally labeled them and didn't burn them? Either that or they labeled them wrong. Had that happen to me recently with some C128 ROMs, swapped them and they were fine.
