CDTV A500 upgrades

First off, I have bog all knowledge about the CDTV, other than it isn't essentially an Amiga 500 with a CD drive.

My friend has one and I have a spare A500 020 accelerator. I wondered if it was possible to fit it in his CDTV, hive him a speed boost and an IDE port.
Does the CDTV rom have scsi.device support?

The CDTV comes with KS1.3 which has no IDE scsi.device so no booting from IDE until you upgrade both Kickstart and extended kickstart.

Yes, they are just socketed ROMs.

Where's the best place to buy the newer ROMs? I'm guessing A500 Kickstart is no good.

A500 kickstart is fine; that's what the CDTV uses. Not sure where you'd buy the CDTV extended ROM from though. Someone else here might be able to help you with that.

I'd be inclined to make friends with someone who has an EPROM burner

Cloanto has licensed out the CDTV extended ROMs - I often see 2.30 on eBay from one or two different vendors. Keep your eyes open for them.

If the accelerator has 32-bit FAST RAM which uses Autoconfigure then the CD-ROM will stop working until the Accelerator/memory is disabled. This is a software issue with CDTV Extended ROM. So make sure your accelerator has a disable switch / option for the times you want to use the CD-ROM

Thanks for that, I wasn't aware that was an issue.

I know it effects the A500 with the A570 connected
